He is scheduled to make a base salary of $715,000 in 2013, $830,000 in 2014 and $845,000 in 2015. The deal includes a $500,000 signing bonus and the opportunity to earn $25,000 each offseason depending on how many offseason workouts he attends.

Newton received 47 of the possible 50 votes, with Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton receiving the other three. "First, I've got to give all the honor and glory to the man above," Newton said. "I want to also thank my coaching staff, my family, my teammates and (team owner Jerry Richardson) for giving me the opportunity. And my fans - without them, I would not be here."

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton hit WR Steve Smith for a 55-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Pro Bowl. That was about the biggest highlight of the day for Newton, who managed to complete just 9 of 27 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, including one returned for touchdown. Smith finished with five grabs for 118 yards and the score.
