Fri, 17 May 2013 15:27:45 -0700 New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) will remain in a walking boot for another two weeks and won't be allowed to bear weight on his foot. d'Arnaud had a checkup with a doctor Friday, May 17, after he fractured his left foot four weeks ago. Fantasy Tip: This is disappointing news for those hoping that d'Arnaud would have already been up in the bigs by now. The success of John Buck and another tough break for d'Arnaud has tempered those expectations, though. Don't expect the catching prospect to make his Mets debut until later this year now.
Tue, 14 May 2013 15:22:20 -0700 New York Mets 1B Ike Davis was dropped to seventh in the order with the team facing a left-hander Tuesday, May 14. However, manager Terry Collins will put Davis back in the cleanup spot Wednesday, May 15. C John Buck is batting cleanup Tuesday. Fantasy Tip: Davis has struggled mightily so far this season, especially against left-handed hurlers. In shallow leagues, Davis might not might be worth the roster spot right now, and he should definitely be benched against most lefties right now in all other formats.
Thu, 09 May 2013 12:23:23 -0700 New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) will be re-examined in New York May 17, and he might be able to start rehabbing in Florida after that. d'Arnaud is still in a walking boot. "A lot of resting. Just stay off my foot and trying to keep it elevated so it can heal back to 100 percent," d'Arnaud. "I'm in a boot that I've been wearing it all the time, except when I sleep." Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud is the club's top catching prospect after he was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey trade. His foot injury is serious and will set him back from reaching the majors until later this summer, if at all. John Buck is still swinging the bat well, so there is no rush to bring d'Arnaud up.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 21:29:15 -0700 New York Mets C John Buck smacked his second homer in as many days Wednesday, April 10, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Fantasy Tip: Buck has five homers, which matches the total of all Mets catchers combined in 2012. He has emerged as a must-start in all NL-only leagues, and is a solid No. 2 receiver in mixed formats.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 11:28:17 -0700 New York Mets C John Buck hit his fourth homer in eight games in a loss Tuesday, April 9. Fantasy Tip: Buck's last two homers have both been to the opposite field, too, which just goes to show he's seeing the ball really well right now. Ride this hot streak out if you own him in two-catcher or NL-only leagues. It won't last forever.
Sun, 24 Mar 2013 23:11:04 -0700 The New York Mets have reassigned C Travis d'Arnaud to minor league camp along with SSs Brian Bixler and Brandon Hicks, RP Aaron Laffey and OFs Andrew Brown and Jamie Hoffmann. d'Arnaud's demotion was widely expected, but general manager Sandy Alderson said d'Arnaud would be recalled before June if something happens to C John Buck.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 15:05:53 -0700 New York Mets C John Buck (illness) was scratched from the lineup with an illness Monday, March 18. Fantasy Tip: Buck will open the year as the team's starting catcher, but Travis d'Arnaud is expected to be recalled at some point in order to be groomed for the long-term role as starter. Buck won't hit much and should only be considered in two-catcher and NL-only leagues.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 14:49:24 -0800 New York Mets C John Buck is one of the most well prepared catchers in the big leagues because of his attention to detail when it comes to learning his pitchers' tendencies and habits on the mound. "He prepares as well as any catcher I've ever played with," said SP Shaun Marcum, who first played with Buck in 2010. "He's always ready." New York likes Buck because he's an excellent game-calling catcher for their pitchers. However, C Travis d'Arnaud will likely be up to play every day in the first couple months of the season, making Buck a trade candidate at some point.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 13:37:50 -0800 The entire projected infield for the New York Mets, C John Buck, 1B Ike Davis, 2B Daniel Murphy, SS Ruben Tejada and 3B David Wright, have all reported early to spring training. Murphy feels much more ready to handle the challenges of second base than he did when he was learning the position last spring.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 13:16:55 -0800 New York Mets C John Buck said SP Johan Santana might have tipped his pitches last season. Buck played with the Miami Marlins last year, but he went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts against Santana. "Being on the other side - whether it's Johan tipping his pitches or whatever - those little tiny things will help. I was just on the other side hitting off of him. Maybe we can tighten some of those things up." Buck said he and Santana have cleared up the issue of tipping pitches already. Santana is working out and hopes to pitch for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.
