Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is debating calling up a third catcher from Triple-A Rochester, and his options include Cs Drew Butera, Rene Rivera and J.R. Towles. Butera is hitting .250 with one homer and three RBIs, Rivera is hitting .192 with two solo homers and Towles is batting .136 with no RBIs. A move is unlikely to come before Sunday, April 22.

The Minnesota Twins optioned OF Joe Benson and P Jeff Manship to Triple-A Rochester and reassigned SS Pedro Florimon Jr. and C Rene Rivera to minor league camp.

Minnesota Twins SS Trevor Plouffe hit three home runs in a doubleheader with Triple-A Rochester Tuesday, July 5, and now has 15 homers on the season in the minors. If Plouffe is to be recalled, Cs Drew Butera and Rene Rivera are both candidates to be sent down. Plouffe has been playing first base at Class AAA at the request of manager Ron Gardenhire.

Minnesota Twins C Rene Rivera hit his first home run in nearly five years Thursday, May 19. SS Trevor Plouffe also added a three-run homer in the game. Rivera's homer was his first since June of 2006.
