Mariners | Felix Hernandez set to start Saturday

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:52:10 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (quadriceps, ankle) will indeed start against the Texas Rangers Saturday, April 18, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

Fantasy Tip: The Athletics got to Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) in his last outing, but he remains a top-tier starting pitcher for daily contests. The only concern is whether you can fill out a competitive lineup with so much cap space allotted to King Felix. Typically, there are plenty of hitter discounts to enable spending up for top arms, though.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez good to go?

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 16:27:12 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (quadriceps, ankle) is expected to be good to go for his start Saturday, April 18, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. However, Seattle will wait to make a decision until after they see him throw Wednesday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: If Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) is able to make his start Saturday against the Texas Rangers, he should be a strong play at FantasyScore against a Texas team that is already dealing with several injuries and is a weaker offensive opponent.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez removed from start

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 15:09:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (quadriceps) was taken out of his start against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, April 12, due to tightness in his right quadriceps.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) looks like he was taken out for precautionary reasons, but this is never good news when a team's big star has injury concerns. Keep an eye on this situation.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez back to himself

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 22:17:32 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed just one earned run, two hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in a win against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, April 6. He threw 64 of his 97 pitches for strikes. He is just the fourth pitcher dating back to 1914 with at least three opening day starts of 10 or more strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: King Felix was horrific during the spring, but often times establish veterans tinker with things during the exhibition games. This is a perfect reason why spring stats for established players can be tossed right out the window. He remains an obvious stud for FantasyScore owners.

Mariners | King Felix tattooed again

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 22:04:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed seven runs, five hits and two walks in just 1 2/3 innings in a Cactus League spring start Tuesday, March 31, against the Cleveland Indians. Hernandez is now 0-3 with a 10.22 ERA in 12 1/3 innings in four spring starts.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez has been awful in the spring, but sometimes pitcher's of his caliber like to tinker with pitches that they normally wouldn't tinker with in the regular season. Don't be terribly concerned about the 2014 Cy Young runner-up, as he will be just fine heading into 2015 despite the rocky Cactus League results.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez roughed up Tuesday

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:39:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez had a rough spring outing Tuesday, March 31, and manager Lloyd McClendon said Hernandez had tired legs after a strong leg workout earlier this week. The team has no concerns about Hernandez for opening day.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) is the third most expensive player at FantasyScore for opening day next Monday. He'll be facing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Seattle. Hernandez should be as a good a starting pitching option as any to kick off the 2015 season.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez to start opener

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 12:46:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said SP Felix Hernandez will start Opening Day against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim April 6.

Fantasy Tip: This news should come as a surprise to no one. King Felix will be the Mariners' Opening Day starter for the seventh consecutive season and is a sure-fire first-round pick in universal fantasy leagues.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez tosses BP

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 17:59:04 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez threw his first batting practice session of the spring Wednesday, March 4. He worked on his fastball command and breaking balls against a collection of minor leaguers.

Fantasy Tip: The Mariners and fantasy owners are obviously well aware of what King Felix can do, so they're limiting his wear and tear early in camp. He remains an obvious fantasy stud heading into the 2015 regular season.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez won't throw yet

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 22:01:02 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez has his own throwing program and he will not get on a mound for a few more days.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez isn't dealing with any kind of a known injury, so this is likely just a precaution to keep him fresh for the regular season. The Mariners, and fantasy owners, certainly know what King Felix is capable of doing without seeing him undergo unnecessary strain.
