Mariners | Felix Hernandez to be skipped

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 00:07:26 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez will be skipped in the rotation this week, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. SP Vidal Nuno will instead pitch Hernandez's game on Monday, Aug. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) has struggled in recent outings, leading some to wonder if it was indeed time to give him a rest. Nuno ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has given up 10 earned runs in 20 2/3 innings and is a decent option in FantasyScore for the price.

Mariners | King Felix finally looks like himself

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 19:51:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed two earned runs, three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in a win against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) entered the game 2-2 with a dismal 8.18 ERA in four August starts, allowing at least four earned runs in three of his outings. His location and velocity were much better, and it appears seeing the yellow and green of the Oakland uniforms spurred him on. He is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts against the A's this season, and 9-4 with a 2.71 ERA in 18 starts against the Athletics since the start of the 2012 season.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez likes facing A's

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:17:16 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez has more wins against the Oakland Athletics than he does against any other team in the league in his career. He is 20-8 with a 2.63 ERA in 38 starts against them, despite losing to them the last time he faced them July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) won't be as much of a lock on FantasyScore as he typically is after allowing 14 earned runs in his last two starts over 8 1/3 innings. However, the A's have the worst record in the American League and aren't the most imposing offensive club around, which could make King Felix an excellent contrarian play on FantasyScore today.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez falls to defeat again

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 04:55:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez dropped back-to-back starts for the first time in nearly two years Friday, Aug. 21. Hernandez allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work as the Mariners fell 11-4 to the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: There's something wrong with Hernandez ($8,100, 16.2% of cap), but whether it is fatigue or just plain inconsistency is pure speculation. The main point here is he is struggling, and it's best to leave King Felix alone until he figures out the struggles. It's rare for him to have back-to-back bad outings, but there may be a reason.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez starting against ChiSox

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 17:26:46 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez, who is starting against the Chicago White Sox Friday, Aug. 21, is 4-5 with a 3.67 ERA in his career against the South Siders. He is coming off a start when he allowed 10 runs and 12 hits against the Boston Red Sox in just 2 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: In three starts this month, Hernandez ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) is 2-1 with a 9.00 ERA, with opposing batters hitting .367 against him. FantasyScore owners should avoid him tonight with so many other quality pitching options available.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez rocked

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 17:47:51 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed 10 runs on 12 hits over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Boston Red Sox Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts and has allowed seven or more runs twice during the stretch. Until he delivers a couple of dominant outings, it's tough to justify his salary at FantasyScore.

Mariners | King Felix touched up by Snakes

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 22:51:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed seven earned runs and a season-high 12 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a loss Wednesday, July 29, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: King Felix ($9,500, 19.0% of cap) certainly wasn't worth the salary in FantasyScore in this one, but he has still lasted at least six innings with five or more strikeouts in each of his past eight outings.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez remains elite

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:13:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez has lost just once since June 22 and is 2-1 with a 1.09 ERA in his last five starts. He faces the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, July 29, a team he hasn't faced since 2009.

Fantasy Tip: King Felix ($9,500, 19.0% of cap) is usually always a good choice on FantasyScore as your ace, and he's been even better at home this year, with an 8-3 record, 2.48 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 11 starts.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez closes first half strong

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 01:07:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez picked up his 11th win of the season and his last before the All-Star break as the Mariners won 7-2 over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday, July 9. Hernandez threw seven shutout innings.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) remains a solid option in FantasyScore formats, as games where he falters are definitely rare. He remains a bright light in a disappointing Seattle season.

Mariners | King Felix tries to bedevil Halos

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 18:53:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez is scheduled to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, July 9. He has a 6-3 record and 2.89 ERA in nine home starts this season, but he is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in three starts against the Angels this season, striking out 26 over 20 innings while holding the Angels to a .136 opponent batting average.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,100; or 18.2% of cap) is very familiar with the Angels, and more often than not the results are good. FantasyScore owners will want to roll with him, especially since opposition pitcher Garrett Richards is rather marginal on the road.
