The New York Mets signed free-agent 2B Brad Emaus (Red Sox) and OF Fred Lewis (Indians) to minor league deals and sent them to Triple-A Buffalo.

Updating a previous report, the Cleveland Indians reassigned OF Fred Lewis to their minor league camp Wednesday, March 28. The team gave him the option to request to be released. Manager Manny Acta said he isn't sure if the team will be able to use him at Triple-A Columbus. "We gave him the option," Acta said. "But I don't know if we do have room in Triple-A."

The Cleveland Indians will likely move OF Michael Brantley to center field with OF Grady Sizemore (back) out for an extended period of time. OFs Shelley Duncan, Aaron Cunningham, Matt LaPorta, Russ Canzler, Ryan Spilborghs, Fred Lewis, Felix Pie, Ezequiel Carrera, Thomas Neal, Chad Huffman, Trevor Crowe and Nick Weglarz will all compete for the left field and fourth-outfielder jobs.
