The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said he doesnít expect SS Greg Wesley (hamstring) to play against Oakland in week seventeen. If he canít play, Jason Belser would get the starting nod.

The Kansas City Star reports S Jason Belser is expected to take over as the Kansas City Chiefs starting free safety. He'll replace FS Jerome Woods (broken leg) who is expected to miss the entire 2002 season.

Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs FS Jerome Woods (leg) broke his right leg in Saturday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Dick Vermeil said Woods will have surgery as soon as possible and is out for the season. SS Jason Belser will take over for Woods at free safety.

Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders DE Trace Armstrong was re-elected as president of the National Football League Players Association. Brian Mitchell (Eagles), Robert Griffith (Browns), Troy Vincent (Eagles), Kevin Mawae (Jets) and Ernie Conwell (Rams) were elected to the executive committee. They will take vacancies filled by retired players Robert Smith, Lester Archambeau, Eugene Robinson, Mike Tomzak and Nolan Harrison. Executive committee members Ray Brown (49ers), Jason Belser (Chiefs), Robert Porcher (Lions), Tim Brown (Raiders) and Eddie George (Titans) were also re-elected. Player dues were increased from $5,000 to $10,000. The board also passed a resolution requiring any player going into the draft to wait at least 30 days before terminating a written agreement with an agent. Any agent who tampers with a player during that period will be subject to union discipline.

The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs DTs Dan Williams (foot) and Terdell Sands (foot), LBs Larry Atkins (knee) and Richard Jordan (knee), safeties Jason Belser (knee), Brad Trout (head) and Lyle West (hand), FBs George Layne (ankle) and Jermaine Williams (dehydration), OT Darnell Alford (knee), G Ian Allen (knee) and TE Mikhael Ricks (shoulder) all missed practice on Tuesday. WRs J.J. Moses (hamstring) and Dave Klemic (hamstring) dressed, but only practiced lightly.

The Kansas City Star reports one of the reasons the Kansas City Chiefs signed S Jason Belser is because team officials were not satisfied with the depth at safety. Belser can play both safety positions and gives the team added speed on defense.

The Redskins, who are looking for help at safety now that they released veteran Mark Carrier, may also consider free agents Jason Belser (Colts), Scott Shields (Steelers) and Keith Lyle (Rams).

As an update to a previous story, the Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins are in deliberations with S Brock Marion and other free agent safeties as a potential replacement for the released Mark Carrier. Agent Jordon Woy, who represents Marion, said he is talking to the Redskins and three other teams about Marion. The Redskins may also look at free agents Keith Lyle, Jason Belser, Darren Perry and Scott Shields.

The AP reports Colts president Bill Polian said the team has little interest in re-signing S Jason Belser, LB Dwight Hollier and DE Bernard Whittington who become unrestricted free agents on Friday. Polian also said DE Shawn King, who was reinstated earlier today, signed a restructured contract. With their moves today, the Colts who had been about $6 million over the cap for this season, are now about $1.9 million under the cap.

Mike Chappell reports in the Indianapolis Star the Colts release of CB Tyrone Poole on Wednesday saved them roughly $2.68 million against the 2001 salary cap. The team could still release another veteran, LB Cornelius Bennett. If they do release Bennett, they will save an additional $1.75 million. The team also has to decide whether it re-signs three of their free agents, FS Jason Belser, DT Bernard Whittington and LB Dwight Hollier. Colts president Bill Polian is expected to address the media on Thursday to discuss various personnel matters.

Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts DBs Jeff Burris, Jason Belser and Mustafah Muhammad were each fined $5,000 by the NFL for excessive celebrations during Monday night's win over the Bills.
