The Baltimore Orioles optioned C Ronny Paulino to the minors Monday, May 7, and recalled P Stuart Pomeranz from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Pomeranz is the brother of Colorado Rockies SP Drew Pomeranz.

The Baltimore Orioles optioned SP Tommy Hunter to Triple-A Norfolk Monday, May 7, to make room for P Jason Berken on the roster. Hunter said he isn't injured at all, but he needs to improve his game. He was 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA. C Ronny Paulino is expected to be optioned to make room for P Stuart Pomeranz, although that transaction isn't official. Berken could be the pitcher to take Hunter's spot in the rotation.

Baltimore Orioles C Taylor Teagarden (back) will begin the 2012 season on the disabled list, which means C Ronny Paulino will serve as the backup to C Matt Wieters. Teagarden had a second epidural injection in his lower back Monday, March 26. He's eligible to come off the DL April 10 in a "best-case scenario."

The role of backup catcher behind C Matt Wieters is still open for the Baltimore Orioles. C Ronny Paulino is thought to have the upper hand thanks to an injury to C Taylor Teagarden (back), but Paulino got a late start to camp.

Baltimore Orioles C Taylor Teagarden (back), who received an epidural in his lower back Wednesday, March 14, isn't ruling himself out for opening day. However, his lower back will likely need two or three weeks to fully heal. C Ronny Paulino will be the backup catcher if Teagarden isn't ready.
