Chiefs | Quinn To Land There?

Sat, 27 Apr 2002 08:38:34 -0700

The Kansas City Star reports it appears free agent QB Jonathan Quinn (Jags) will likely end up with the Kansas City Chiefs. He would initially come to the Chiefs as their No. 3 quarterback behind QBs Trent Green and Todd Collins. Quinn would need to beat out the struggling Joe Germaine for the No. 3 job. Quinn is also aware that Green and Collins are entering the final season of their contracts. "That's one of the things that's attractive about Kansas City," said Quinn's agent, Rich DeLuca. "That definitely plays into the decision."

Chiefs | In Need of a Quarterback?

Mon, 28 Jan 2002 21:57:20 -0800

The Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs may be thinking quarterback entering this year's NFL Draft. QB Trent Green is entering the final year of his deal with the team and QBs Joe Germaine and Todd Collins haven't shown they can be the QB of the future thus far. The Chiefs have the No. 8 pick in the draft, but have too many other needs to take a QB that high. QB Kurt Kittner (Illinois) was a player the Chiefs liked when they looked at his regular season, but he hasn't played well during the all-star circuit.

Sun, 02 Sep 2001 21:42:27 -0700

Bernie Miklasz reports for the Post-Dispatch the St. Louis Rams traded QB Joe Germaine to the Kansas City Chiefs for a sixth-round draft choice. Germaine wasn't ready for the pressure of being the Rams insurance for QB Kurt Warner. After trading Germaine, the team signed Jamie Martin to be their No. 2 QB. He was released earlier today by the Jaguars. Rams coach Mike Martz has coached Martin with the Rams and in Washington. Martin is Martz's type of quarterback. Martin is unflappable and cerebral and has a quick release. Rookie Marc Bulger is the No. 2 QB for now, until Martin learns the Rams playbook.

Rams | Germaine Ready To Be No. 2

Sat, 28 Apr 2001 19:37:51 -0700

The Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams QB Joe Germaine is ready to take over as the team's No. 2 QB, now that Trent Green has been traded. He took the news of his promotion like everything else he does, calmly. "The house could be burning down or you could give him a $2 million in cash and he'd have the same look on his face," Rams coach Mike Martz said. "I don't get too excited over good things or too upset over bad things. I just try to keep real even-keel, cool-headed, that type of thing. That's kind of the way I've always been," said Germaine. Many felt the Rams should have kept Green as insurance for Kurt Warner, but Martz feels Germaine is ready and more than capable for his new role. Germaine said he will be ready.

Once again Martz said it's feasible within the salary cap to keep both Warner and Trent Green next year. He also indicated the team would trade Green, who doesn't want to be a backup again, if they can get a draft pick in the middle or better of the first round of April's NFL draft. Martz also feels #3 QB Joe Germaine is ready to step in as the #2 guy if needed.

Bears | Considering a Rookie

Sun, 21 Feb 1999 22:30:00 -0800

The Chicago Tribune reports that while the Bears still consider going after a veteran QB they are also mulling over their draft possibilities. At this point it looks like the Bears have only 3 QBs rated high enough to take with their seventh overall pick. Kentucky's Tim Couch, Syracuse's Donovan McNabb and Oregon's Akili Smith are the QBs the Bears rank that high but of course with about two months to go before the draft things could change. The Bears also feel they could draft a QB with any of their first three selections and they did spend some time with Ohio State QB Joe Germaine at the combine. For their first pick the Bears have other options as well, trade down with a team looking for Georgia's Champ Bailey (if he lasts that long), take a defensive player or take an offensive tackle.
