Tampa Bay Buccaneers PK Nate Kaeding (groin) has decided to retire from professional football after suffering a groin injury a few days ago. "It's not like I can switch the way I kick, or change this way, or use a different muscle," Kaeding said. "Especially for me, and the way I kick, that's the main lever in the kicking motion. It's impossible to avoid it and I've got these chronic issues."

San Diego Chargers PK Nate Kaeding believes this year's training camp has been the best of his career. He said the day-to-day consistency has been there and he is feeling really comfortable on the field. "I just think it's a natural carry-over from the good work I was able to put in this spring and summer," Kaeding said. Of his five missed field goals last season, one came during a groin injury that caused him to miss a couple of games and three others came on tries of 50 yards or longer. Head coach Norv Turner said there are not any concerns over Kaeding's range of kicks, noting he was able to hit a 57-yarder in '08 and a 52-yard game-winner in '09. Kaeding is 10-of-19 on 50 yards or longer field goals in his career, but he has had better accuracy during training camp this year, which he is attributing to his focus. He said he spent time during the offseason working on longer field goals to become more comfortable with them.

In addition, he has new special teams coach Rich Bisaccia spending parts of practice throwing socks and tennis balls at Kaeding as he attempts field goals.
