Andersen said Monday, Dec. 8, he has given up his search to resume his NFL career. "I realized I no longer can train in an optimal way because of my knees," Andersen said in a phone interview. "So I am retiring."

"For me, it was always about setting goals. When I was in my 20s, I said I wanted to play into my 30s. When I was in my 30s, I said I wanted to play into my 40s. So here we are — I'm going to be 47 in August, so 50 was just the next step," Andersen said.
