The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent RP Hong-Chih Kuo (Dodgers) to a one-year deal. His base salary will be $500,000 with $2.5 million in potential bonuses. He'll earn $1 million on the 25-man roster.

Updating a previous item, Los Angeles Dodgers RP Hong-Chih Kuo (elbow) will have surgery Friday, Oct. 28, to have a loose body removed from his left elbow. He is expected to be fully ready for spring training. Trainer Stan Conte said the loose body in Kuo's elbow didn't contribute to his problems this year. The Dodgers are unlikely to offer Kuo arbitration this offseason, which would make him a free agent.

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Hong-Chih Kuo (elbow) will not be playing in Taiwan as part of MLB's goodwill series due to elbow soreness. Kuo has already undergone four surgeries on his left elbow, including two Tommy John procedures. He will be examined by a team doctor Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said RP Hong-Chih Kuo had the first shot at the save Friday, July 15, but he got himself into trouble and a slew of righties led Mattingly to go to RP Javy Guerra to finish off the game. "I kind of look at Javy as that guy," Mattingly, who still considers the lefty Kuo as closer-ready in obvious, percentage-based situations. "If he (Kuo) didn't walk (Ryan) Roberts, he could have had the save. But Kuo's been good, too. The ball's really coming out of his hand well. He's getting that life back."
