Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said minor league RP Jose Arredondo, currently pitching for Triple-A Louisville, has been suspended by the organization as a disciplinary action for a "short" period of time. It is unknown why he was suspended.

Cincinnati Reds P J.J. Hoover has pitched well this spring with 14 strikeouts and just one walk in seven Cactus League appearances, while P Jose Arredondo has pitched well and is out of options. Both players have a good chance at winning bullpen jobs.

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said he will likely continue to play the matchups in the ninth inning between RPs Jonathan Broxton, Sean Marshall, J.J. Hoover and Jose Arredondo with RP Aroldis Chapman resting for a few days. "(Broxton) is the No. 1 candidate. But it's matchups, too," Baker said. "If they have three lefties, it could be (Sean) Marshall. It could be Broxton, it could be (Jose) Arredondo, it could be (J.J.) Hoover. Broxton is the No. 1 choice. We try to limit Broxton to two days in a row, too."

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said RP Jose Arredondo (forearm) is not expected to be available Sunday, July 22, because of a swollen forearm. Arredondo was hit in the forearm by a line drive Saturday, July 21.

Cincinnati Reds RP Jose Arredondo is feeling great after being two years removed from Tommy John surgery. "This guy if he can return to form where he was in Anaheim he was unbelievable," manager Dusty Baker said. "I don't think he's quite returned to that form. But he's approaching that." Arredondo is 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA this spring, but four of the five runs he's allowed came in one of his six innings. He has struck out 11 and walked just two.
