The Associated Press reports former NFL OG Rich Tylski reached a deal Friday, May 23, to eventually drop child abuse charges against him after he admitted hitting his adopted daughter. Tylski will be in the prosecutors' program for first-time offenders for around a year or until he finishes anger and parenting classes. If he completes the program the charges will be dropped.

NFL | Tylski, wife charged with child abuse

The Associated Press reports former NFL OG Rich Tylski and his wife were accused of hitting their adopted daughter with a belt, slamming her head on a table and other abuse that left the girl with broken bones in her hands and leg. Both Tylski and his wife, Jane, were free on $20,000 bond each on the child abuse and neglect charges.

Free agent OL Rich Tylski's (Patriots) agent, Derrick Fox, has confirmed to KFFL that the Carolina Panthers have signed Tylski to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not available.

Nick Cafardo, of the Boston Globe, reports retired OG Rich Tylski would like to return to the NFL. Tylski, who took a year off after retiring from the New England Patriots, says he's completely healthy and wants back in. "I had arthritis and ankle sprain upon ankle sprain, and I really didn't know whether I was going to be able to withstand the pain until I actually got out there and tested it," said Tyliski, 32. When I did, I realized I needed time for my body to heal. I knew I had to hang it up." Tylski said he would like to return with the Patriots or another team willing to take a chance on him.

Updating an earlier story, the Associated Press reports New England Patriots OG Rich Tylski has decided to retire. Tylski signed with the Patriots this off-season. Head coach Bill Belichick spoke with Tylski Sunday night and said, "I think Rich just felt like he wasn't playing at a level he thought he should be playing at and that's a little different from him feeling that he didn't want to play football."

Dan Pires, of the New Bedford Standard-Times, has informed KFFL that for the second year in a row a New England Patriots have had a retirement party at the beginning of training camp. Well, not really. Like guard Joe Panos of a year ago, guard Rich Tylski served notice on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick that he's calling it quits. "I talked to Rich last night," said Belichick. "It was a real tough decision for him. He's been a starter for the last six years and he's been on some good football teams. I just think he felt that this was the right thing to do."

Patriots.com reports that New England Patriots OL Rich Tylski is competing for a starting spot on the offensive line. Tylski worked at both guard positions during the team's most recent minicamp, at times working with the first team. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is very pleased with Tylski and is happy to have some depth at the OG position.

The Post Gazette reports Pittsburgh Steelers director of football operations, Kevin Colbert, said the team will release OL Rich Tylski Monday. He was to earn a $975,000 salary this year. Oliver Ross is tentatively slated to take over at right guard, although it's possible Keydrick Vincent or rookie Kendall Simmons could play there.

The Post Gazette reports the Pittsburgh Steelers selection of OL Kendall Simmons of Auburn in the first round of the NFL Draft means the team will be releasing OL Rich Tylski and his $975,000 salary. OL Oliver Ross or, if he makes a quick and impressive adjustment, Simmons will start at right guard.

RB Jerome Bettis (groin) looks like he never was injured. "He's making cuts. I think he's relieved a little bit of the apprehension just from that," coach Bill Cowher said. "I think he's going to be close to full speed (by gametime)."

Updating an earlier story, the Tribune-Review reports Pittsburgh Steelers starting G Rich Tylski (high-ankle sprain) did practice today. However, he practiced with the scout team, but still didn't work with the first team. "I'm feeling pretty good," said Tylski. He didn't want to comment on his chances of playing Sunday. "I don't know. That's up to (the coaches) evaluating me. I still have to go out (today) and see how it feels after working on it."

Updating an earlier story, the Post Gazette reports X-rays on Pittsburgh Steelers OL Rich Tylski's lower left leg showed no broken bones, but the extent of his injury won't be known until tomorrow. As previously reported, the injury is above the ankle.
