The Baltimore Sun reports free agent OL Marcus Spears backed out of his contract agreement with the Baltimore Ravens for family reasons and re-signed with the Chiefs. "We had a deal in place between he, myself and the agent, and he reneged on that deal," Ravens SVP Ozzie Newsome said. Although he could have been a probable starter with the Ravens, Spears likely will remain a backup to John Tait with the Chiefs for less money.

Updating previous reports, Jay Glazer, of SportsLine.com, reports OT Marcus Spears has now agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs on a four-year deal. Spears had previously agreed to a four-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, but never officially signed the deal. He'll get a $1.25 million signing bonus and the deal will average just over $1 million per season and includes incentives based off of the number of games he starts.

Spears will be penciled in as the starter heading into training camp ahead of OT Jason Thomas. "[Spears] is a guy that we are very excited about," said Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens SVP of football operations. "We were unable to find a tackle in the draft, so we wanted to pursue that position through free agency. What we like about him is his versatility, because he can play guard and right tackle and he's athletic."
