Roaf said, "I'm not one of those guys who's going to miss all the camp and then come back and play football. I don't think that's fair to my teammates and to the fans and everybody to do it like that. If I'm going to be there, I'm going to be there and be committed to the team." He added that he would consider returning to play in 2007. "I'm done right now. I can't say never say never. You know Deion (Sanders) came back. [Kansas City Chiefs OT] Kyle Turley came back later on. But this year, I'm done."

"I have not spoken to Willie. As I've said, I've been dealing with these guys," Edwards said. "Once training camp breaks – which will be next week – I'll try to call him and find out what he really wants to do because at that point – next week – we've got to make some decisions and he's got to make some decisions. Maybe he already has."

Like we ran the ball 99 percent of the time to Willie's side and 1 percent to the other side. With or without Willie, we have a good offensive line. With or without Willie, I'm going to get my yards. Head coach Herman Edwards said, "I've heard this before from players. Willie has played a long time in this league, and that's a tough decision. Sometimes you have to sit back after you make a decision like that and ponder it." Some of the team's veteran players are also calling Roaf and asking for him to return.

"What I don't want to do is distract the guys on this football team that are here and just went through their first day of practice. That, to me, is more important than anything because these are the guys that are here, the guys that are getting coached today and the guys that are obviously trying to win a job. That's the most important thing."
