NewOrleansSaints.com reports former New Orleans Saints OT Willie Roaf will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame Friday, September 26. Roaf played nine seasons with the Saints from 1993-2001.

Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs would still like retired OT Willie Roaf to reconsider his decision and return to the team. "I will give him ample opportunity to change his mind," said team president/general manager Carl Peterson. "I know what he said, but I also know what he told his agent. His agent thinks that Willie still wants the door open for the opportunity to come back. I'm going to respect that."

Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports retired OT Willie Roaf (Chiefs) spoke publicly Wednesday, Aug. 16, on ESPN2's "Cold Pizza," where he said conjecture the he just wanted to miss training camp was wrong. Roaf said, "I'm not one of those guys who's going to miss all the camp and then come back and play football. I don't think that's fair to my teammates and to the fans and everybody to do it like that. If I'm going to be there, I'm going to be there and be committed to the team." He added that he would consider returning to play in 2007. "I'm done right now. I can't say never say never. You know Deion (Sanders) came back. [Kansas City Chiefs OT] Kyle Turley came back later on. But this year, I'm done."

During his press conference Monday, Aug. 14, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards discussed the status of retired OT Willie Roaf. "I have not spoken to Willie. As I've said, I've been dealing with these guys," Edwards said. "Once training camp breaks – which will be next week – I'll try to call him and find out what he really wants to do because at that point – next week – we've got to make some decisions and he's got to make some decisions. Maybe he already has."

Paul Domowitch, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson has found new motivation now that he's been handed the starting job. Johnson wants to prove wrong the doubters who believe his numbers will dwindle not that OT Willie Roaf is retired. Johnson said, "They act like we only ran it in one direction last year. Like we ran the ball 99 percent of the time to Willie's side and 1 percent to the other side. With or without Willie, we have a good offensive line. With or without Willie, I'm going to get my yards. Nobody's going to stop me."

David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports retired OT Willie Roaf has said his decision to retire is final and his decision had nothing to do with head coach Herman Edwards. Roaf said, "I respect my teammates too much to go out there and play at a level that I'm not used to."

Chris Harry, of The Orlando Sentinel, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly trying to get retired OT Willie Roaf (Chiefs) to return to the team. Head coach Herman Edwards said, "I've heard this before from players. Willie has played a long time in this league, and that's a tough decision. Sometimes you have to sit back after you make a decision like that and ponder it." Some of the team's veteran players are also calling Roaf and asking for him to return.

During his press conference Friday, July 28, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards stressed the fact that he did not want OT Willie Roaf's retirement to serve as a distraction. "What I don't want to do is distract the guys on this football team that are here and just went through their first day of practice. That, to me, is more important than anything because these are the guys that are here, the guys that are getting coached today and the guys that are obviously trying to win a job. That's the most important thing."
