Kansas City Chiefs OT Willie Jones (neck) has announced his retirement from the NFL Tuesday, August 19. Jones was a five-year veteran who played in 18 games during his career. He suffered a neck injury during the pre-season game against the Green Bay Packers earlier this month.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs OT Willie Jones (neck) remained at Aultman Hospital overnight after sustaining a neck injury in the second quarter of Monday night's preseason game. Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said Jones sustained a sprained neck but was beginning to have feeling in his fingers and toes.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the team has agreed to terms with free agent OT Willie Jones to re-sign with the team with a one-year contract. As previously reported, the deal is believed to be worth $475,000 including a $25,000 signing bonus.

He would have required up to four weeks of recovery time, coach Dick Vermeil said. Updating previous reports, the Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs OT Willie Jones (spine) suffered a bruised spinal cord in practice this week. Head coach Dick Vermeil said he might remain in the hospital through Saturday, but said there is no significant damage and it's just a severe bruise. “He still tingles a little bit in the upper body,” Vermeil said. “He will be fine. It’s just going to take time.”

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said OT John Tait (head/stitches) is likely to miss a couple of weeks of action following Tuesday’s fight in practice. Vermeil said he’ll be ready for the team’s preseason game against the 49ers. Willie Jones will replace him in the lineup for the time being. Tait had been struggling before the injury so Vermeil has left the door open for Jones starting for the team on opening day.

The Witchita Eagles' Rick Plumlee reports Kansas City Chiefs OT Victor Riley is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to his broken fibula in his right leg. CB Ray Crockett is out indefinitely with a broken right hand. "We're going to miss Victor," Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said. Willie Jones, whose NFL experience had been limited to playing briefly in two games earlier this season, replaced Riley. Riley hadn't allowed a sack this season, but the Steelers beat Jones for two of their four sacks Sunday.

Vermeil said the team isn't sure what direction they'll take to replace Riley right now. They'll either leave Jones at the starting spot or look to move somebody else over to the slot.
