Wed, 09 May 2012 06:09:23 -0700 Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said that he feels badly for the New Orleans Saints players who were suspended as a result of the league's investigation into bounties; however, he doesn't think the league could sit by and do nothing when it learned of the Saints' bounty program. "I've known Jonathan Vilma for a very long time, and Will Smith actually hosted me on my visit to Ohio State in college," Fitzgerald said. "So I've known these guys for a really long time and they're not bad men by any stretch of the imagination. I feel bad that they're losing game checks and losing the opportunity to make a living. But I think Roger Goodell, our commissioner, had to do something to let everybody know that this is not going to be tolerated, and moving forward this is not something that's going to be acceptable."

"Player safety is best taken care of by providing health insurance for players' lives," Briggs said. "Come on. It's like asking a boxer: 'Are your injuries related to taking blows to the head?' We throw our bodies around. It's physical. It's football. You can't stop the violence from happening."
Thu, 03 May 2012 05:37:57 -0700 New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vilma released a fiery statement Wednesday, May 2, to dispute the NFL's findings in its bounty investigation. Vilma has been suspended for the entire 2012 season. "I am shocked and extremely disappointed by the NFL's decision to suspend me for the 2012 season," Vilma wrote. "Commissioner Roger Goodell has refused to share any of the supposed evidence he claims supports this unprecedented punishment. The reason is clear: I never paid or intended to pay, $10,000, or any amount of money, to any player for knocking Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, or any other player out of the 2009 Divisional Playoff game, 2010 NFC Championship game, or any other game. I never set out to intentionally hurt any player and never enticed any teammate to intentionally hurt another player. I also never put any money into a bounty pool or helped to create a bounty pool intended to pay out money for injuring other players ..."
