Fifteen modern-day finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame were announced Saturday, Jan. 7, and they are joined by two senior nominees. A selection committee in Indianapolis will meet in Indianapolis Feb. 4 to determine the 2012 Hall of Fame class. RB Jerome Bettis (Steelers), WR Tim Brown (Raiders), , CB Jack Butler (senior - Steelers), WR Cris Carter (Eagles, Vikings), C Dermontti Dawson (Steelers), owner Edward DeBartolo Jr. (49ers), DL/LB Chris Doleman (Vikings, Falcons, 49ers), LB/DL Kevin Greene (Rams, Steelers, Panthers), DL/LB Charles Haley (49ers, Cowboys), DL Cortez Kennedy (Seahawks), RB Curtis Martin (Patriots, Jets), head coach Bill Parcells (Giants, Patriots, Jets, Cowboys), WR Andre Reed (Bills), OT Willie Roaf (Chiefs), OG Will Shields (Chiefs), OG Dick Stanfel (senior - Lions, Redskins) and CB Aeneas Williams (Cardinals, Rams) are the finalists.

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Kansas City Chiefs OG Will Shields has decided to retire after 14 seasons in the NFL. The 12-time Pro Bowl performer and likely Hall of Fame candidate announced his retirement on his Web site. "The love for the game never decreased but, as the years passed, the physical requirements of the game became harder to fulfill each and every day. If it was up to me I would play football forever but, as we all know, that is unrealistic," Shields wrote on the site.

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Kansas City Chiefs OG Will Shields is leaning towards retiring instead of returning for his 15th NFL season, according to two NFL sources close to Shields.
