However, the right-hander is still open to returning to the Royals. Hudson (shoulder) missed the entire 2008 season and didn't pitch much in '07 either due to shoulder surgery. He's been resting his shoulder since July and doesn't plan on throwing until mid-December. "I'll just go from there and keep my fingers crossed," said Hudson. "I feel really strong and my range of motion is great."

Picollo, the team's director of player development. Hudson is on track to begin throwing live batting practice by the end of the week, and could start a minor league rehab assignment in early June if he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Hudson is coming back from season-ending shoulder surgery last May, which entailed removing scar tissue from his shoulder. "I haven't been throwing 100 percent since I've been here, but, progressively, a little more intense each time out," said Hudson. He hopes he'll be ready by Opening Day, but the team has asked him not to push his comeback too fast. |
