Twins | Two players out Sunday

The Minnesota Twins rested OF Josh Willingham and C Ryan Doumit on Sunday, May 19, against the Boston Red Sox. Willingham entered Sunday hitting just .103 (4-for-39) over his last 10 games with no homers to lower his average to .108 on the season. OF Wilkin Ramirez made the start in left field in his place. As for Doumit, he was given the day off after catching the day before in a game that lasted three hours and 53 minutes. He was also involved in a collision at home plate with Red Sox C Ryan Lavarnway in the sixth inning.

Twins | Josh Willingham gets day of rest

Minnesota Twins OF Josh Willingham (knee) gets another day of rest Friday, May 3, against the Cleveland Indians. He hasn't played in left field since Saturday, April 27, due to some minor knee soreness. Willingham is expected back Saturday, May 4. OF Oswaldo Arcia receives the start in Willingham's absence.

Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau drove in three more runs Thursday, Feb. 28, and is hitting .467 with three doubles and seven RBIs this spring. OF Josh Willingham went 2-for-2 Thursday and is hitting .727 (8-for-11). C Joe Mauer went 2-for-2 as well and is hitting .375 (3-for-8) in four games.

Phillies | Had interest in Josh Willingham

The Philadelphia Phillies tried to acquire Minnesota Twins OF Josh Willingham in the same trade they made with the Twins for OF Ben Revere. The Phillies also tried to make a separate deal with the Twins for Willingham.

Although the Minnesota Twins have said they would keep players on the roster like C Joe Mauer, general manager Terry Ryan said players like Mauer, 1B Justin Morneau and OF Josh Willingham would be tradeable if the offers were good enough. "We've got interest in all kinds of players in the industry, but unfortunately it's going to take quite a bit to get them," Ryan said.

Twins | Happy with Josh Willingham's season

The Minnesota Twins are happy with the way OF Josh Willingham's season turned out despite injuries that sapped him in the final week. "He's had a career year," general manager Terry Ryan said. "We were desperate for a right-handed bat to put between those two lefties (Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau). When it was apparent that Michael (Cuddyer) maybe was not coming back we started to turn our attention to other right-handed bats, and Josh was at the top of the list."
