Brian Allee-Walsh, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett has decided to rotate his linebackers in the team's Week 4 game. Haslett and Saints defensive coordinator Rick Venturi have concluded that six linebackers deserve playing time with the first unit. Strongside LB Sedrick Hodge, MLB Courtney Watson and weakside LB Colby Bockwoldt, although listed at the top of the team's depth chart at their positions, haven't necessarily distanced themselves from backup LBs James Allen, Ron McKinnon and T.J. Slaughter. "I don't like to platoon anybody, but I think all six linebackers warrant playing time,'' Haslett said. "So, if that's the way it is, that's the way it is.''

Les East, of the Advocate, reports New Orleans Saints LB Colby Bockwoldt is getting stronger during the offseason. Bockwoldt became a starter last season due to his improvement and other linebackers' injuries and sub-par play. He wound up starting the last seven games for the team. "He's doing great," head coach Jim Haslett said of Bockwoldt's offseason work. "He's a lot stronger than he was before he came in last year. It's not even close." Strength and conditioning coach Rock Gullickson said Bockwoldt went from 232 pounds to 248 during the eight weeks of conditioning that preceded the coaching sessions that have taken place the last two weeks. While gaining the weight and muscle, Bockwoldt has maintained his speed. Bockwoldt is the incumbent at weakside linebacker and he is expected to start again in 2005.

"Colby did okay," Haslett said. "He did really well against the run; he was really instinctive. He had seven tackles and four assists. He struggled a little in the passing game; it's a different kind of passing game that he saw."
