Colts | Team will find out mid-summer if Pope is available

Fri, 05 May 2006 18:33:32 -0700

Tom James, of the Tribune-Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts will likely have to wait until mid-summer to learn if LB Kendyll Pope will be available for training camp or the start of the 2006 season. Pope was suspended for the 2005 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Head coach Tony Dungy thinks there is a chance he will be back with the team and added, "So far, everything's going on track for that. But again that's not our decision. That will be up to the NFL on when they might reinstate. One year would be in July and that's what we're looking at. We're hoping that everything goes as well as it can in that one year."

Colts | Pope's status is uncertain

Tue, 11 Apr 2006 17:55:49 -0700

John Oehser, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian said status of LB Kendyll Pope for next season is uncertain. Pope was suspended for a year by the NFL last August. "Our thinking is if he's made significant progress, he's a guy we'd like to have back," Polian said. "If he hasn't, then obviously he won't be back. That's a question that's unanswered at this point and probably won't be until almost (training) camp, if then. If they'll allow him to apply for reinstatement, it's usually a pretty good sign."

Colts | Pope Just Wants to Improve

Thu, 11 Aug 2005 21:03:12 -0700

John Oehser, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts LB Kendyll Pope's goal in training camp is to improve a little bit each day. "My goal is to get two percent better every practice," Pope said. "Whatever it is, I want to improve. If I make a mistake in the first practice, I don't want to go out and make it again in the second practice. It's one of those things – it's about getting better and better every day." This offseason, the Colts moved Pope to strongside linebacker from weakside, an adjustment Pope said isn't easy but one head coach Tony Dungy said he is handling well. "We're playing him in a couple of different spots, but we're basically playing him on the strong side behind David Thornton," Dungy said. "He's made plays when he's been in the ballgames. We liked him a lot and he played in a system very similar to our's at Florida State."
