John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports the Buffalo Bills have put DT Tim Anderson on the market, according to several league sources. Anderson, a restricted free agent, would have required a third-round draft pick in compensation had a team offered him a deal. The Bills, however, would likely take a mid-round draft choice if the right deal were to be offered during the NFL Draft.

Sal Maiorana, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports the Buffalo Bills will spend money up to the league's $109 million salary cap. The team, however, will not surpass that amount in salary cap money plus millions of dollars in bonuses attached above and beyond the cap. "We're going to spend cash to the cap," said general manager Marv Levy. "We're not going to amortize the future, that's a decision we made. We would spend to the cap, but we won't go beyond that." The Bills will be roughly $26.5 million under the cap should they choose to offer the required minimum contract tenders to their four restricted free agents - DL Anthony Hargrove, CB Jabari Greer, RB Shaud Williams and DL Tim Anderson.

Jay Skurski, of the Niagara Gazette, reports Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron took notice of DL Kyle Williams' performance during the team's preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 12. Jauron said, "He's a consistent football player. He's one of those players that doesn't look a lot different than he did in college. Sometimes, you're fearful that a player is pretty good in college but that step up in talent leaves him behind. He doesn't look like he's that kind of guy at all. He looks like he's very comfortable here, and he looks very confident, and he steps right in and plays." Williams is listed as the No. 2 nose tackle behind DL Tim Anderson. In defensive coordinator Perry Fewell's Tampa 2 defense, players are encouraged to sprint to the football which means there will be plenty of substitution to keep defensive players fresh.

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills rookie DT John McCargo could push DT Tim Anderson for a starting defensive tackle role, according to Bills head coach Dick Jauron. "When we get him to training camp and start working with him if he can hold up in camp at the one technique (nose tackle), then he'll play there some," Jauron said of the rookie. McCargo feels he can play at either tackle spot. "I was over the center and over the guard and over the tackle." said McCargo of his college experience. "It was mostly a three-technique, two-technique, one-technique rotation for me. I feel like I can do it all. I feel I can play inside and out."

Incumbent starter DL Tim Anderson will compete with rookie DTs John McCargo and Kyle Williams to maintain his starting position throughout the offseason. "I like the challenge of being down there. You get doubled a lot more and I think it's a bigger challenge. I enjoy being in close quarters and just inches from the guy you're about to hit as opposed to having a gap in between you. I've always been a little bit more comfortable at the nose so I'm looking forward to it."

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills DT Ron Edwards (shoulder) will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder injury. Backup DT Tim Anderson will likely replace Edwards in the starting lineup.

The injury appears to be serious and his status is unknown for Week 5. If Edwards were unable to play, DT Tim Anderson would replace him.
