The team also waived S Kareem Moore (knee), who was on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent DE Darrion Scott (Vikings) has received a three-game suspension for the 2008 season for violations of the league's conduct policy. Scott pleaded guilty last week to a gross misdemeanor in a case involving child endangerment. He faced two felony charges for putting a plastic bag over the head of his son, but he accepted the lesser plea of child endangerment. Scott is eligible to sign with any team and participate in training camp, but his suspension would begin the first week of the regular season.

The Associated Press reports free-agent DL Darrion Scott (Vikings) pleaded guilty to child endangerment Monday, July 7, for putting a plastic bag over the head of his son. Scott's attorney, Joe Friedberg, said the other charges will be dismissed when Scott is sentenced July 24. He faces a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine.

David Hanners, of the Pioneer Press, reports former NFL DE Darrion Scott's trial on charges of assault and child endangerment will start July 7. Scott has yet to enter a formal plea in the case. Scott was arrested last month after Hennepin County (Minn.) Child Protection investigators began looking into claims made by the mother of a son fathered by Scott that he had held a plastic bag over the child's head and tried to suffocate him. Scott is charged with third-degree assault, domestic assault by strangulation and endangerment of a child.

Kevin Seifert and Paul Walsh, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, report free-agent DL Darrion Scott (Vikings) was charged Tuesday, May 6, with assaulting his son by holding a plastic dry cleaning bag over his head, while the boy was kicking and screaming. According to the criminal complaint, the boy's mother heard her son's cries and found Scott holding the bag over the boy's head April 26. Scott is charged with felony assault in the third degree, felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor endangerment of a child. Scott's agent, Tom DiPiero, said Scott did not abuse the child. "Anyone who knows Darrion knows him to be a big 'teddy bear' type of guy, easygoing and never loud or abrasive," DiPiero said. "We believe this nightmare is a terrible mistake and that the child has not been abused, at least not by Darrion."

James will rehab the injury for about two weeks and then will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee. Head coach Brad Childress has not made it clear as to how James will be replaced. Rookie DL Ray Edwards may start at James' position of right end or the team could move DL Kenechi Udeze from left end to right end and start DL Darrion Scott at left end.

Kevin Seifert, writing for the Sporting News, reports Minnesota Vikings DE Kenechi Udeze (knee) is working his way back from a knee injury that cut short his 2005 season. Udeze had microfracture surgery performed on his knee, an advanced procedure that doesn't always allow football players to get all the way back to 100 percent. This winter, however, Udeze has begun running agility drills at the team's practice facility. Udeze will have to beat out DE Darrion Scott or DE Erasmus James to regain his starting spot in 2006.

Vikings head coach Mike Tice has been so impressed with James this offseason, he has compared his pass rushing moves to those of former Vikings standout Chris Doleman. "Erasmus is everything we thought he'd be when we drafted him," Tice said. "He has tremendous speed, tremendous get off on the ball. I like our athleticism up front."
