Rays | J.P. Arencibia draws in as designated hitter

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 08:00:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia is batting seventh as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Sunday, Aug. 30. 1B James Loney is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Daily players could take a speculative leap of faith on Arencibia, as he owns plenty of power potential. However, he also owns an uninspiring .255 career on-base percentage.

Rays | James Loney to serve suspension

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 14:11:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney will not be in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Thursday, Aug. 27, because he is serving his one-game suspension. OF Daniel Nava will start at first base and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should return to the lineup after his suspension. Nava ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is hitting only .194 this month and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Rays | James Loney suspended one game

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:40:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney was suspended one game Tuesday, Aug. 25, for making contact with an umpire in the game Saturday, Aug. 22. Loney is appealing the suspension.

Fantasy Tip: Because he's appealing, Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will be able to play in the game tonight against Ervin Santana and the Minnesota Twins. Loney has very little power and is a mediocre first base target on FantasyScore, although he does have five hits in 16 career at-bats against Santana.

Rays | Daniel Nava starting at first base

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:26:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Daniel Nava is starting at first base and batting seventh against Houston Astros SP Scott Kazmir Monday, Aug. 17. 1B James Loney is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Nava ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) owns a career .206/.287/.292 slash line against lefties, so you'll want to aim higher at FantasyScore Monday. Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) typically doesn't play against lefties, so seasonal owners should weigh their options because he hasn't been having a banner season.

Rays | James Loney sitting vs. Texas

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:57:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is not in the starting line Friday, Aug. 14. 2B Logan Forsythe is starting at first base and batting fourth against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday, and he usually draws out of the lineup against lefties. He is having a nice month, too, with a .353./.389/.529 slash line over 36 plate appearances in August. Forsythe ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has a .965 OPS against southpaws this season and is worth a look at FantasyScore Friday.

Rays | James Loney in against LHP

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 08:13:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is hitting sixth Wednesday, Aug. 5, against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) missed the last two starts as the Rays have faced four consecutive left-handed starters now. Loney is hitting just .200 against lefties this year, and it's not the best time to use him on FantasyScore.

Rays | James Loney sitting against White Sox

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 12:43:42 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is not in the starting lineup against the Chicago White Sox Monday, Aug. 3B Richie Shaffer is starting at first base and batting sixth against Chicago SP Jose Quintana Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. After posting a .299 and .290 batting average the past two seasons, Loney is hitting just .263 this season, and if he isn't posting a plus-average, his fantasy stock isn't worth a roster spot in the majority of leagues. Shaffer is a player to monitor in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, as he posted a .595 slugging percentage with Class AAA Dunham this year.

Rays | James Loney out Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:31:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is not in the lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP David Price Tuesday, July 28. 2B Logan Forsythe is starting at first base and hitting cleanup, while SS Tim Beckham slides over to second base and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Forsythe ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been a pleasant surprise for the Rays this year. However, he's not your prototypical cleanup hitter and is in a tough matchup against Price tonight. It might be tough for him to return any value Tuesday night.

Rays | James Loney sitting against LHP

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:46:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 22, with OF Joey Butler hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has fallen off after a hot start as he's hitting just .152 this month. He hits slightly better against lefties, and Adam Morgan is a decent matchup. He's a low-end option on FantasyScore.

Rays | James Loney in a tailspin

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 20:29:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney was hitless in four at-bats Tuesday, July 21, against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he has posed just one hit over his past 30 at-bats to drop his season average to .252.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600; or 5.2% of cap) has not hit for much power over his career, but he generally saves fantasy players with a high average and healthy amount of doubles. He is doing neither lately and should be avoided in FantasyScore.
