Rays | James Loney out Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:31:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is not in the lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP David Price Tuesday, July 28. 2B Logan Forsythe is starting at first base and hitting cleanup, while SS Tim Beckham slides over to second base and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Forsythe ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been a pleasant surprise for the Rays this year. However, he's not your prototypical cleanup hitter and is in a tough matchup against Price tonight. It might be tough for him to return any value Tuesday night.

Rays | James Loney sitting against LHP

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:46:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 22, with OF Joey Butler hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has fallen off after a hot start as he's hitting just .152 this month. He hits slightly better against lefties, and Adam Morgan is a decent matchup. He's a low-end option on FantasyScore.

Rays | James Loney in a tailspin

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 20:29:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney was hitless in four at-bats Tuesday, July 21, against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he has posed just one hit over his past 30 at-bats to drop his season average to .252.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600; or 5.2% of cap) has not hit for much power over his career, but he generally saves fantasy players with a high average and healthy amount of doubles. He is doing neither lately and should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Rays | James Loney hit the ground running

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 08:39:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is 8-for-24 (.333) with a homer and five RBI since returning from the disabled list July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is at a dirt-cheap price for a cleanup hitter on FantasyScore. Give him a look against Yordano Ventura, who's returning from the DL himself, in today's game.

Rays | James Loney owns the Yankees

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 16:54:43 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney had a two-run single in an 8-1 win over the New York Yankees Sunday, July 5, and he is hitting .340 against the Yankees for his career and .402 in 112 at-bats at new Yankee Stadium.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is a generally an unattractive option at FantasyScore, but his sustained success against New York makes him worth a look as a source of cap relief whenever he takes on the Yankees.

Rays | James Loney returning Friday

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 12:26:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney (finger) will be activated from the disabled list before the game Friday, July 3. RP Preston Guilmet is being sent down to Class AAA Durham.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should at least return to the strong side of a platoon at first base to face right-handed pitchers, meaning Marc Krauss ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) could lose whatever little fantasy value he may have had. Loney has very little power to speak of and is batting-average dependent, making him a fantasy commodity in the very deep mixed leagues, at best.

Rays | James Loney rehab update

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 18:30:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney (finger) collected a pair of hits in the second game of his rehab assignment with Class A Charlotte Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) remains on pace to rejoin the parent club this weekend. FantasyScore owners should avoid him during the first game or two after he is activated so that he can prove that he is completely healthy.

Rays | James Loney kicks off rehab stint

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:18:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney (finger) went 1-for-4 in the first game of his minor-league rehab stint with Class A Charlotte Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Loney is expected to return sometime this weekend. FantasyScore players need to wait to see him officially return and prove his health before trusting him again.

Rays | James Loney could rehab later this week

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 14:25:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney (finger) could start a minor league rehab assignment later this week.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) could be back with the team shortly after his rehab assignment starts. He figures to return to a starting role at first base when he's ready to return, meaning Marc Krauss ($1,700, 3.4% of cap), likely isn't long for the organization. Neither Loney nor Krauss are worth a roster spot in shallow mixed leagues.

Rays | James Loney takes hacks

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:51:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney (finger) hit off a tee and played catch for the first time Wednesday, June 24, and he could return before the All-Star break, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Loney ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) doesn't hit for much power and is mainly a low-end target in very deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He's not the ideal FantasyScore target at first base when he's playing.
