Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez comes up limping

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:59:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (undisclosed) came up limping after beating out a grounder against the Cleveland Indians Friday, May 20, but he stayed in the game.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like any injury Ramirez may have suffered is minor, so he should be safe to use going forward.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt sitting

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:30:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 18, in the first game of a doubleheader. 3B Josh Rutledge is hitting sixth, and OF Chris Young is hitting eighth. C Ryan Hanigan is hitting ninth with C Christian Vazquez also resting.

Fantasy Tip: Young is only worth using against lefties, which Ian Kennedy is not. Rutledge is 4-for- 9 (.444) the last week and might be worth a basement flyer. Hanigan isn't worth starting in DFS.

Red Sox | David Ortiz not starting

Sun, 15 May 2016 09:10:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Chris Devenski Sunday, May 15. 3B Travis Shaw will start at first base, while 1B Hanley Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter. 2B Josh Rutledge will start at third base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez and Shaw have played well and should be starters in all fantasy leagues. Rutledge has only one hit in his last nine at-bats and is not a great option for most owners.

Red Sox | David Ortiz takes a seat

Tue, 10 May 2016 12:14:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Sean Manaea Tuesday, May 10. 2B Josh Rutledge draws into the lineup at second base and is hitting sixth. 1B Hanley Ramirez is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup, while 3B Travis Shaw moves across the diamond to first base.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz is just receiving a breather. Rutledge has seven hits in 14 at-bats but doesn't give you much hope for power, as he's never reached double-digit long balls in a single season. He's a low-end desperation play in daily leagues. Ramirez and Shaw continue to produce at a high level and are solid picks in any fantasy format this evening.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez extends streak

Fri, 06 May 2016 20:19:12 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 10 games, finishing 2-for-5 in a 3-2 loss to the New York Yankees Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has two homers, nine RBI and six runs scored during the streak, and while his speed has disappeared, he can still provide solid offensive numbers when healthy.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez back in the lineup

Thu, 05 May 2016 16:08:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez (illness) is back in the lineup and batting fifth against Chicago White Sox SP Erik Johnson Thursday, May 5. Ramirez missed the game Wednesday, May 4, because of the flu.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is off to a respectable start to the season with 14 runs, two home runs, 16 RBI, three stolen bases and a .284/.306/.412 slash line. The steals are a nice bonus, and the power numbers and batting average have room for growth. Return him to your starting lineups with confidence.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez under the weather

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:19:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez (flu) was scratched from the starting lineup with flu-like symptoms Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Look for Hanley to return to the lineup in the next few days. He's hitting .284 with two home runs and 16 RBI on the season. The good news is Ramirez's defense at first base hasn't been an issue at all. Keep running him out there in your starting lineups but check back to see if he'll return for Boston's next game.

Red Sox | Three Boston hitters are hot

Tue, 03 May 2016 14:16:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is hitting .432/.519/.568 with 10 runs, six doubles and four RBI in his last 11 games. OF Jackie Bradley Jr. has hit in eight straight contests (11-for-30) with seven extra-base hits and nine RBI. 1B Hanley Ramirez has 13 hits in his last 42 at-bats (.310) with nine RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously you'll want to keep all three of these players in your lineups, even though they're facing White Sox starter Jose Quintana, who has an ERA under 2.00, tonight. Bradley is excelling at the bottom of the lineup and is worth picking up for outfield depth in deep mixed leagues if he's available.

Red Sox | David Ortiz not in lineup

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 07:07:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, April 9. 1B Hanley Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez has recorded two hits in each of his first three games and has two RBI during that span. He should be a starter in all mixed leagues and could be used in daily fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez comfortable at 1B?

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 09:17:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez scooped a low throw in the spring game Monday, March 14, and he's starting to look more comfortable at first base. "My infielders are comfortable," Ramirez said. "You've got Hanley at first. You don't have to worry about anything."

Fantasy Tip: Hanley disappointed his owners after a fast start in 2015, and shoulder woes likely contributed to a terrible second half. Another new position this year will scare many owners away, but more positional flexibility for fantasy owners is a plus. Still, a 32-year-old slugger with declining plate skills won't be all that attractive and he'll likely slip into the middle rounds on draft day.
