Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez has cooled off

Mon, 18 May 2015 14:44:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez is in a 1-for-13 slide that has seen his OPS drop from .949 to .816 on the season. He still leads the team in home runs by five with 10, but he hasn't gone deep since April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Ramirez's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) shoulder injury recently has contributed to his lack of power. It's worth watching. His average has dropped to .264 (34-for-129) on the year, but he's been one of the more productive hitters in a weak-hitting lineup this year. He's hitting much better against lefties (.324 with four home runs) than against righties (.242 with six home runs), though.

Red Sox | Boston terrible against southpaws

Wed, 13 May 2015 11:36:09 -0700

The Boston Red Sox are hitting a meager .188 against left-handed pitchers this year, which is dead last in all of baseball, and they have a .638 OPS (ranked 26th) against lefties. OF Hanley Ramirez is about the only hitter on the team succeeded against lefties, going 8-for-24 (.333) with four home runs. 1B Mike Napoli is .240 against lefties this year, while SS Xander Bogaerts is 5-for-25 with zero RBI. DH David Ortiz has five hits in 34 at-bats, and 3B Pablo Sandoval is just 2-for-34 batting from the right side as a switch hitter. The Red Sox will face three left-handed pitchers when they face off against the Seattle Mariners this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: You'll obviously want to avoid most Red Sox players when they face left-handed hurlers, at least for the foreseeable future. Also, all lefty pitchers should at least be considered at FantasyScore when facing Boston, beginning with Roenis Elias ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) as a sleeper pick tomorrow.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez hitless in return

Sat, 09 May 2015 18:43:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) returned from a three-game absence and finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a 7-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, May 9, and manager John Farrell said Ramirez is playing through some pain.

Fantasy Tip: With Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) dealing with some pain in his shoulder still, it is a good idea to avoid him at FantasyScore until he picks up the pace at the plate.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez to play Saturday

Sat, 09 May 2015 09:21:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is in the starting lineup Saturday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) missed the previous three games because of his shoulder injury but is back in the lineup. Ramirez is a risky option on FantasyScore because of his shoulder, and owners may want to see him play in a game or two before using him.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez takes swings

Fri, 08 May 2015 14:52:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) took dry swings Friday, May 8, and he may hit on the field Saturday, May 9, according to manager John Farrell. Farrell noted a stint on the disabled list still looks unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has received the majority of starts with Ramirez out, and Craig has fleeting value in deep seasonal formats and FantasyScore contests. Continue to check back for updates on Ramirez's status and a return timetable.

Red Sox | No timetable for Hanley Ramirez

Wed, 06 May 2015 15:30:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) could take dry swings as early as Thursday, May 7, but there is no timetable for his return to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez could eventually require a DL stint if he doesn't heal quickly enough. Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is expected to see the majority of starts in left while Ramirez is sidelined. Craig becomes a very cheap value play at FantasyScore, and he's intriguing against Tampa Bay Rays starter Alex Colome tonight.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez sitting out

Wed, 06 May 2015 13:54:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) probably will miss a few more games because of his injury. Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is starting in his place but is not a great option since he is only hitting .163 this season.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez could miss a week

Wed, 06 May 2015 06:41:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) could miss a week before the team decides to put him on the 15-day disabled list. Ramirez showed improved range of motion in his left shoulder Tuesday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) has hit safely in his last three starts and jacked his first homer of the year May 1. It's an improvement, but it's not enough to warrant a start on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez has AC sprain

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:49:25 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a mild Grade 1 sprain of the AC joint in his shoulder, and he's day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) avoided serious injury and is expected to avoid hitting the DL for Boston. That's great news for his owners, especially with the crop of fantasy shortstops thinner than ever this year. Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Daniel Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) could platoon in left field until Ramirez returns.

Red Sox | BoSox hope Hanley Ramirez can avoid DL

Mon, 04 May 2015 21:23:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is considered "day to day", according to manager John Farrell after the game Monday, May 4. He said Ramirez's injury is not a "clear-cut DL" situation, based on the team's evaluation.

Fantasy Tip: If Ramirez is forced to miss time it might mean the promotion of Rusney Castillo from Triple-A Pawtucket. Brock Holt ($3,600; 7.2% of cap) should see regular at-bats, too.
