Dodgers | Scott Kazmir signs with Dodgers

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:18:43 -0800

Free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros) signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: The 31-year-old southpaw went 7-11 with a 3.10 ERA and 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings with the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros last season. His production faltered when he went to Houston in a midseason trade. The move to pitcher-friendly Chavez Ravine is good for his fantasy value moving forward, and he can make for a nice staple in the middle of your fake starting pitching staff.

MLB | Orioles pursuing Scott Kazmir, Yovani Gallardo

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 16:46:07 -0800

Free agent SPs Scott Kazmir (Astros) and Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) are both actively being pursued by the Baltimore Orioles, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo has registered an ERA below 4.00 in six of the last seven seasons, proving last year he can survive in the American League after a solid campaign with the Rangers. Kazmir has also been very steady throughout his big league career and is coming off a year that saw him post a cool 3.10 ERA in stints with the Athletics and Astros. If one of them were to head to Baltimore, their ceiling might not be as high, but it's hard to argue with their consistent track records.

MLB | Scott Kazmir trims list of suitors

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 16:58:51 -0800

Free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros) has trimmed his suitors to the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, and it doesn't look he will sign anytime soon. Kazmir might be waiting for a team to offer him four years after already receiving multiple three-year offers.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir had his ups and downs in 2015, pitching well to start the year with the Oakland Athletics and struggling once being traded to the Astros. At 31 years old, don't expect Kazmir to pitch lights out for a full season, but he can certainly be useful in stretches in all fantasy formats.

MLB | Scott Kazmir receiving plenty of interest

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 18:02:54 -0800

Free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros) has reportedly received multiple three-year offers that are believed to be worth $12 million to $13 million per season.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir has been linked to the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals this offseason, in addition to the Astros, although it is unknown which clubs offered him three-year contracts. He is a slight injury risk and projects as a middle-of-the-rotation piece for fantasy teams next season, especially if he's pitching in the National League.

Royals | KC eyeing two FA starters

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 10:20:08 -0800

Free-agent SPs Wei-Yin Chen (Orioles) and Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) are receiving interest from the Kansas City Royals. Chen is likely the top left-handed free-agent pitcher still on the market, so they push more for him. Kansas City is also interested in free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros).

Fantasy Tip: Chen is certainly an underrated starter both in real life and in fantasy, and a move to KC would be a boost to his fantasy value moving away from hitter-friendly Camden Yards. Something similar could be said about Gallardo after he pitched his home games in one of the best all-around hitter's parks in baseball. Look for both to present nice buying opportunities in fantasy drafts next spring.

Astros | Houston wants to re-sign Scott Kazmir

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:56:09 -0800

The Houston Astros are interested in re-signing SP Scott Kazmir.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir pitched very well with the Oakland Atheltics in the first half and then slumped after being traded to the 'Stros for a 4.17 ERA and 2-6 record in the second half. Houston isn't the best environment to maximize his fantasy value, and he'll likely have an up-and-down year as he continues to age. Expect him to be somewhere in between his two halves last year in 2016.

Orioles | O's interested in Scott Kazmir

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 17:06:32 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are one of several teams that have expressed interest in free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros).

Fantasy Tip: The Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals have also been linked to the 31-year-old left-hander, who went 7-11 with a 3.10 ERA in 31 starts last season. If Baltimore signs Kazmir, he would likely be the team's only southpaw in the starting rotation, assuming that Wei-Yin Chen signs with another club. Kazmir should be drafted in the middle or later rounds of next year's fantasy baseball drafts for single-universe and deep mixed leagues.

Nationals | Scott Kazmir interests Nats

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 15:50:41 -0800

The Washington Nationals are interested in free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros).

Fantasy Tip: Washington is still looking to replace Jordan Zimmermann on the free-agent market, and Kazmir could be there guy. Kazmir pitched extremely well with the Oakland Athletics last year but fell apart in his time with the Houston Astros. At his age you can't expect a full season of impeccable performance, and he remains an injury risk, as well. But a move to the National League would probably make him the most attractive as a middle-of-the-rotation piece for fantasy rotations.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir talking to A's

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:37:11 -0800

Free-agent SP Scott Kazmir (Astros) is talking with the Oakland Athletics, and he's interested in returning to the team. Kazmir is likely to require $17-18 million per season on a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir thrived in the first half last year with Oakland, but he stumbled to a 3.86 ERA in 14 starts with the Houston Astros after being traded. A move back to Oakland would give owners optimism that he can return to those first-half numbers, but don't go all in on an aging left-hander with an injury history.
