Athletics | Scott Kazmir may miss one start

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:20:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir (shoulder) may miss just a single start after an MRI revealed no structural damage Thursday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) should be kept on rosters in season-long leagues. FantasyScore owners should allow Kazmir to get through one start without any setbacks before reinvesting.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir going for MRI

Wed, 27 May 2015 16:18:13 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir (shoulder) will undergo an MRI exam Wednesday, May 27, after leaving his start early with left shoulder issues.

Fantasy Tip: The A's won't know whether Kazmir ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) will need to go on the DL until they get the results of his exam. There's a good chance he'll need to be sidelined, though, as the left-hander has had shoulder problems in his career in the past. Plan for the worst if you own him, and be prepared to go without him at FantasyScore for a while.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir leaves with injury

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:57:06 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir (shoulder) left his start early against the Detroit Tigers with left shoulder tightness Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) may be in danger of missing his next start, depending on the severity of his shoulder injury. He was pitching well against the Tigers before leaving, too, so it'd be a shame if he's forced to the DL. Stay tuned for updates on his condition. Depending on the injury, it might be wise to avoid Kazmir at FantasyScore the next time he takes the mound again.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir not drawing interest?

Fri, 22 May 2015 06:11:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir possibly being traded wasn't discussed in detail by Athletics general manager Billy Beane Thursday, May 21, although Beane noted no team has called about acquiring Kazmir.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) appears to be staying in Oakland for the time being, which at least add a layer of comfort for fantasy owners. He is sporting a 3.08 ERA with a 2-2 record through eight starts in 2015. He is slated to pitch Friday, May 22, at the Tampa Bay Rays (Chris Archer) and has encountered a bit of a rough patch, relatively speaking, in his last few outings. Consider him a low-upside play Friday.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir on a roll

Wed, 06 May 2015 14:58:35 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir has a 1.62 ERA in his first five starts this season, and he enters the game against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, May 6, with a five-game winning streak against Minnesota dating back to May of 2013. Kazmir has a 2.68 ERA against the Twins in that span.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) is facing a team that ranks fourth in the American League in strikeouts (212), and their lineup has been weakened recently with Oswaldo Arcia going on the DL. This veteran lefty should be a solid FantasyScore play tonight.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir battled cramping

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 20:59:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir (calf) said Monday, April 13, that he had some mild calf cramping in the fourth inning of his start against the Houston Astros but he was able to get through it.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir allowed just one run with three hits, three walks and eight strikeouts over six innings in the 91-pitch quality start, more than earning his $5,000 (or 10.0% of cap) price tag.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir had back stiffness

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 10:11:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir (back) said he feels fine after some back stiffness during his outing Wednesday, April 8, against the Texas Rangers. Kazmir said it is no big deal.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) picked up the win in a stellar outing against the Rangers Wednesday night, throwing seven shutout innings and striking out 10 hitters. It'll probably be tough for Kazmir to replicate his surprising 2014 season, but he will still be valuable in the right matchups, especially at pitcher-friendly O.Co Coliseum.

Athletics | Scott Kazmir to receive second start

Mon, 16 Mar 2015 12:30:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir will start the second game of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir posted a career-high 15 wins last season but did see his ERA go from 2.38 before the All-Star Break to 5.42 after the break. Kazmir could be an option in later rounds of drafts, but owners should not count of him to be one of their top starting pitchers.

Athletics | Sonny Gray, Scott Kazmir to be eased in

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 09:55:25 -0800

Oakland Athletics SPs Sonny Gray and Scott Kazmir will be held out of Cactus League games for the first week. Gray made a career-high 33 starts in 2014 and tossed 219 innings, while Kazmir made 32 starts and threw 190 innings, his most since 2007. It'll also allow the A's to get better looks at SPs Jesse Hahn and Kendall Graveman, among others.

Fantasy Tip: Gray's jump in innings is definitely a concern, but not enough of one to cloud the fact that he's an up-and-coming ace that could join the elite ranks of starting pitchers in another season. Kazmir was a feel-good story with the A's last year, but his K/9 dipped to 7.8, and you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank on the wrong side of 30. However, he can still be useful in the right matchups in daily games.
