Red Sox | Stephen Drew to DL

Fri, 05 Jul 2013 16:09:59 -0700

The Boston Red Sox placed SS Stephen Drew (hamstring) on the disabled list, retroactive to June 29. They also called up P Jose De La Torre from Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: This should lock Jose Iglesias into deep-mixed utility for at least the next few weeks, though the long retroactive period could mean Drew returns soon after next week, though given Drew's penchant for injury, that's hardly a safe bet.

Red Sox | Alfredo Aceves recalled, Jose De La Torre optioned

Boston Red Sox P Alfredo Aceves has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket so that he can start the club's game on Wednesday, June 12. Boston has optioned RP Jose De La Torre in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Aceves is tough to consider for a spot start, despite his mild success in recent spots. The Tampa Bay Rays have hit Boston around in this series.

Red Sox | Andrew Bailey activated

Mon, 20 May 2013 12:44:01 -0700

The Boston Red Sox activated RP Andrew Bailey (biceps) from the 15-day disabled list Monday, May 20, and optioned RP Jose De La Torre to Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Get Bailey into your weekly lineups. He'll return immediately to the closer's role, but John Farrell indicated that he probably won't pitch on back-to-back days initially. For that reason, Junichi Tazawa may retain some value in deep mixed leagues for a bit.

Red Sox | Joel Hanrahan to 60-day DL

Thu, 09 May 2013 12:49:58 -0700

The Boston Red Sox moved RP Joel Hanrahan (forearm) to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, May 9, to open a roster spot for RP Jose De La Torre. Surgery for Hanrahan is "definitely a possibility."

Fantasy Tip: It's looking more and more like Hanrahan will need Tommy John surgery or another major procedure on his right forearm. He won't be back any time soon, and with the other bullpen arms that can pitch in the ninth inning in Boston, he won't be saving ballgames in the near future, either. Drop him in most formats.
