Minnesota Vikings DL Jared Allen received 49 of a possible 50 votes Friday, Jan. 6, as he earned first-team All-Pro honors. It is the fourth All-Pro nod for Allen, who tied Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson for the first most votes to the first-team.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Fred Pagac is not expected to return after one season at the position. DLs Jared Allen and Kevin Williams have voiced support for the DC. An NFL source also said Tuesday, Jan. 3, that defensive line coach Karl Dunbar has told people he has decided not to return.

Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen said he is very happy playing defensive end in a 4-3 defensive alignment and would not be very interested in playing linebacker in a 3-4 defensive alignment if the team decides to make the change. The Vikings are expected to fire defensive coordinator Fred Pagac after the season and have had discussions about the possibility of using the 3-4 defensive alignment.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier acknowledged Wednesday, Dec. 21, that the coaching staff has discussed ways to give DL Jared Allen a shot at the decade-old NFL single-season record of 22 1/2 sacks held by former New York Giants DL Michael Strahan. "We are going to do our very best to see him lead the league in sacks and hopefully break that record," Frazier said. Allen has 17 1/2 sacks, and is 3 1/2 short of the club record set by former DL Chris Doleman in 1989.

Minnesota Vikings DL Jared Allen was removed from the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints after getting chop blocked in the fourth quarter and getting up slowly. He was unhappy about the decision. "For me, I want to play the whole game. I don't want to come off the field. I feel like (if) we're trying to win games, we should put our best players on the field," Allen said. "They felt that I obviously needed to be off the field at that time, so that's their call."

Johnson recorded 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns versus the Vikings back in Week 3. "If a guy's nickname is Megatron, unless you've got Optimus Prime on your team, double him up," Allen said of Johnson.
