While Jones was tempted to join them because of their playoff potential, he's looking to play for more than the veteran minimum. The Raiders, looking for help on the defensive line, took a look at free agent DT Dan Williams, who was just cut by the Chiefs.

Chiefs | Williams Update

Tue, 21 Aug 2001 21:21:04 -0700

The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs DT Dan Williams may not be ready for the regular season opener. Williams has suffered from a series of foot, knee and thigh injuries during an eight-year NFL career. On Tuesday, coach Dick Vermeil for the first time expressed doubt about Williams' return. "I don't know about Dan Williams," Vermeil said after the Tuesday morning practice. Williams declined to comment Tuesday. If Williams is unable to go when the Raiders come to KC to open the season, the Chiefs could place him on the PUP list without taking up an extra roster spot. The Chiefs will continue to start John Browning and Steve Martin at tackle while Williams sits.
