The Chicago Cubs could pursue free-agent 1B Prince Fielder (Brewers) now that former Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum is the Cubs' new manager. "Prince and I have a great relationship," ESPN.com quoted Sveum as saying last week. "I love Prince to death. It would be nice to have him at first base because of what he brings to the table every single day."

New Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum is expected to retain hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo through the 2012 season, along with bullpen coach Lester Strode and bench coach Pat Listach. Sources said first-base coach Bob Dernier and third-base coach Ivan DeJesus were informed they won't be back.

Sources said Detroit Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont had a strong showing in his interview. The BoSox did not extend an offer to Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum after he received an offer from the Chicago Cubs for the same job.
