Giants | Taylor wants to wait before deciding on retirement

Mon, 05 Jun 2006 05:13:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Star-Ledger reports agent Raymond Savage has now said New York Giants WR Jamaar Taylor (knee) will wait to make his retirement from the NFL official until he has some more test results on his knee. Taylor has been working to rehab the knee, but recently experienced what Savage termed "clicking and popping" during the team's organized team activities. Savage said Taylor has been "going back and forth" for the past two weeks and even told Savage to move forward with his retirement, but Savage said Taylor has since changed his mind again. Savage expects Taylor to make a decision by Tuesday, June 6, when he receives the results of a recent examination conducted by doctors not affiliated with the Giants.

Giants | Taylor Says Knee Trouble in the Past

Wed, 10 Aug 2005 23:23:57 -0700

Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants WR Jamaar Taylor says he never was completely healthy in his 2004 rookie campaign after having knee surgery during his senior season in college. This season, however, he says the knee is healthy again and he is ready to make an impact. "The knee feels great," Taylor said. "It's a totally different situation than it was last year. It's not as hard on me mentally, in terms of preparing and to feel the way I did. I come off the field and I feel great, my knee feels good and strong ... (Now) it's all about going out there and competing. Being the best you can be, being the fastest that you can be, and getting open and making big plays. If I do that, then, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be out there."

Giants | Taylor Ready to get Going

Wed, 22 Jun 2005 05:36:17 -0700

Wade Baker, of the Monitor, reports New York Giants WR Jamaar Taylor is pain free and he can't wait for the 2005 season to get started. He is fully recovered from the knee problems that have troubled him in the past. "It's pretty tough when you're doing the right things, when you're the last one to leave the training facilities at night and then when you wake up the next day, and you can hardly walk," said Taylor. He rested his knee during the offseason, but shortly after arriving for voluntary workouts with the Giants his knee began to swell and the soreness returned. After resting for two weeks it was recommended that Taylor have the right knee scoped, the same knee which he suffered a torn ACL during his senior season at Texas A&M. As previously noted, Taylor had the surgery May 24. "Ever since I had surgery, I've been feeling great," Taylor said. Taylor is expected to contend for No. 3 receiver spot with WRs David Tyree and Tim Carter.

Giants | Taylor Hopes Recent Surgery Corrects Knee Issue

Fri, 03 Jun 2005 23:09:23 -0700

The Star-Ledger reports New York Giants WR Jamaar Taylor (knee) has struggled with his knee ever since he tore a knee ligament as a senior at Texas A&M in October of 2003. Last month, the pain was as bad as ever and his right knee wouldn't fully extend. He took two weeks off from the team hoping the rest would relieve the soreness, but it did not and Taylor thought about retiring. The bad knee caused Taylor to alter his running style, an adjustment he said contributed to hamstring and quadriceps injuries that kept him out of eight games last season. Taylor said Russ Warren, the Giants' team physician, earlier this week shaved some bone in the joint and removed a bit of scar tissue in an attempt to correct the problem in Taylor's knee. He said the expected recovery period for his latest surgery is four to six weeks and with training camp seven weeks away he thinks he can be ready to go by then. Taylor is expected to compete with WR Tim Carter for the team's No. 3 wide receiver spot.
