Sports, reports the Denver Broncos signed free-agent WR Samie Parker (Chiefs) to a one-year deal worth $605,000 base salary with a $20,000 signing bonus and a $20,000 roster bonus. Parker had a few multi-year offers, but he felt the Broncos offered him the best chance to see extended action which could lead to even better offers in 2009.

KCChiefs.com reports Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green discussed WR Samie Parker Thursday, June 15. "I think he's doing real well. Samie's just going to get more and more opportunities. If you look at what he's done his first couple of years, when he's had opportunities and he's stayed healthy, that's when he's played really well. For Samie, it's going to be staying healthy. If he can stay healthy and get 16 games in, I think his numbers are going to be great. He does a great job catching the ball over the middle and for a guy who is not really big, he is fearless, he will go into traffic and catch the ball, he's got speed on the outside to make big catches and stretch the field. He's proven to be clutch; he's come up with some huge 3rd down catches over the last couple of years. He's got all the qualities to be there, instead of playing three games, sit out a couple, play six games, that kind of thing. He has got to find a way to stay healthy, but I think he's progressing nicely and we're looking for a big year from him."

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs still have a need at defense. With the team needing to fix many defensive needs, the Chiefs will likely pass on wide receiver early in the NFL Draft. During the past five drafts, the Chiefs have yet to select a wide receiver higher than the third round. Team president and general manager Carl Peterson addressed the situation and talked about WRs Samie Parker and Craphonso Thorpe. He said, "We haven't been able to get that player. To date, that guy hasn't stepped up. I'm cautiously optimistic and excited about Samie Parker. Hopefully, good things are going to happen there. I would say the same thing about Craphonso Thorpe. Until his injury, we had him rated a lot higher than a fourth-round pick. We're going to keep looking. We're going to keep churning the waters."
