Chick Ludwig, of the Dayton Daily News, reports free agent QB Craig Krenzel (Bengals) has 25 days to file an injury grievance with the NFLPA against the Cincinnati Bengals. NC Sports, which represents Krenzel, said the quarterback sustained an arm injury during the team's offseason workout program. The injury will require surgery and according to the NFLPA, players who are injured while performing services for their club are entitled to receive their salary for as long as they remain physically unable to play during the season, as well as receive treatment, rehabilitation and medical care. In addition, the NFLPA states that players who are released while still injured and unable to play because of the injury "must file an injury grievance within 25 days" after their release "to enforce your rights under your player contract." Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team would have no further comment on the situation.

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals will need to make a decision on what to do with QB Jon Kitna this offseason. Kitna will be an unrestricted free agent and is QB Carson Palmer's top backup. The Bengals could promote QB Craig Krenzel as a cheaper and more long-term backup quarterback or re-sign Kitna. Other key unrestricted free agents are TE Matt Schobel and DL Carl Powell.

Kevin Goheen, of the Cincinnati Post, reports the battle for the Cincinnati Bengals No. 3 quarterback job between QBs Casey Bramlet and Craig Krenzel remains too close to call. Head coach Marvin Lewis didn't elaborate on their situation following the team's 38-0 win Friday evening, Sept. 2, against the Indianapolis Colts in the final preseason game. Bramlet was 5-of-9 for 42 yards, while Krenzel completed just two of his seven pass attempts for 18 yards against the Colts.

Don Pierson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears have decided to postpone their search for a veteran quarterback until after the NFL draft in April. "We're going to wait until the draft," general manager Jerry Angelo said. "If we sign somebody now and then draft somebody, we'd have to cut whoever we sign. We're not sure there's anybody out there who would be an improvement over what we have with Craig Krenzel and Kurt Kittner." The Bears are seeking an experienced backup to QB Rex Grossman.

While he continued to practice, he ended up just handing the ball off during the remainder of the workouts. The team does not think it is serious and believes he should be able to play in Week 10.

The Chicago Bears plan to decide between QBs Jonathan Quinn and rookie Craig Krenzel this week in regards to which quarterback will start for them in Week 7. Offensive coordinator Terry Shea said Quinn will get about 60 percent of the practice snaps, with Krenzel receiving about 40 percent. Quinn had been taking 100 percent of the snaps previously. While the team believes Quinn is a good practice player and that he will retain the job, they want Krenzel prepared and ready in case they need to make a change during a game.
