Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he isn't committed to QB Case Keenum starting the rest of the team's regular season games. "He has to continue to play well to stay in there," Kubiak said.
Fantasy Tip: The Texans are in the midst of a lost season, so we doubt Matt Schaub will get another chance unless Keenum tanks in a few games or is injured. Keenum isn't a bad midrange QB1 if you're starter is injured or on bye.

Mon, 28 Oct 2013 10:44:31 -0700
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Oct. 28, but will be the backup quarterback to QB Case Keenum in Week 9 versus the Indianapolis Colts.
Fantasy Tip: Schaub should be left to the waiver wire for now. He could win the starting job back if Keenum struggles, but with his ankle likely not being 100 percent for the rest of the year, we wonder how effective he'd be if he's at the helm of the offense again.

Thu, 17 Oct 2013 11:53:50 -0700
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has ruled out QB Matt Schaub (ankle) from Week 7 action.
Fantasy Tip: There is no reason to hold onto Schaub if you had him as your QB2. He could return to action next week, but there's nothing intriguing about his play at the moment.
Thu, 17 Oct 2013 11:44:35 -0700
Houston Texans QB Case Keenum will start in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy Tip: Keenum put up big numbers in college, but the spread offense he ran back then isn't employed in Houston, so he isn't likely to see success immediately. This doesn't mean that Matt Schaub (ankle) is benched, however; he's dealing with an ankle injury and hasn't practiced this week. Keenum should not be started anywhere.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 17:21:15 -0700
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle, foot) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Fantasy Tip: If Schaub is unable to start this week, T.J. Yates is likely to start, with Case Keenum serving as the backup. The Chiefs are unbeaten, and rank third in the NFL in passing defense. None of the Houston QBs are attractive from a fantasy perspective this week.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 13:44:13 -0700
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) is very sore and his leg remains swollen Wednesday, Oct. 16. He hasn't been ruled out for Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team may wait until game day to announce a starter. QBs T.J. Yates and Case Keenum took first-team repetitions Wednesday. Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said Keenum has come a long way since his rookie year, and he seems to be in line to start against KC.
Fantasy Tip: Although Houston won't acknowledge it yet, it seems Schaub is a long shot to play this weekend. Yates and Keenum aren't worthy of consideration for your fantasy squad.

Tue, 15 Oct 2013 09:46:42 -0700
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) said he heard his ankle pop when he was injured during the team's Week 6 game. "It popped and must've come out and come back in place. … It could have been drastically worse," said Schaub, who was forced to leave the game and was replaced by backup QB T.J. Yates. Schaub said his ailment affects his ankle and foot, and he's still hoping to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. If he can't go, either Yates or QB Case Keenum will suit up.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound promising right now that Schaub will be able to return in time to take on one of the better defenses in the NFL. That tough task will likely fall to Yates, instead. If you own the Chiefs defense, you're sitting pretty.

Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub could be benched if he struggles again in the team's Week 6 game.
Thu, 10 Oct 2013 19:30:14 -0700
The Houston Texans will be willing to bench QB Matt Schaub if he continues to turn the ball over because it would not be fair to the other players to keep him on the field.
Fantasy Tip: Schaub has the perfect matchup this weekend against the St. Louis Rams in order to get back on track. However, don't expect a monster day from him. The running game should have success and take some pressure off his shoulders. T.J. Yates doesn't offer very much upside at all if they go in that direction.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said QB Matt Schaub will be the team's starting quarterback Week 6.

After stating that Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub would remain as the team's starting quarterback after another shaky performance in the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Oct. 6, head coach Gary Kubiak didn't seem as sure Monday, Oct. 7, during his press conference. "He is," Kubiak said, "but I'm in the evaluation process." Kubiak declined to say that Schaub would start in Week 6 against the St. Louis Rams. Schaub was benched in Week 5 and has now thrown an interception returned for a touchdown in four straight weeks.
Fantasy Tip: The door is open for T.J. Yates to take over the starting QB role, but it still seems as though Houston isn't ready to jump ship just yet. Yates has almost no upside. In the meantime, Schaub shouldn't be trusted in any fantasy lineup.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is being supportive of QB Matt Schaub after the team's disappointing loss in Week 4 to the Seattle Seahawks in which he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown for the third straight week. "I don't see a lack of confidence," Kubiak said a day later. "I see some poor decision-making situations. Something that he has to handle and something that we can help him handle." Schaub had 355 yards and two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions.
Fantasy Tip: Schaub is at no risk of losing his starting job right now. Other than the two interceptions, he played relatively well against a very tough defense. Schaub remains a QB2 that can make a nice bye week filler with the right matchup.
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 16:05:00 -0700
Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and is listed as probable for Week 4.

He's got to get better," Dennison said. "He can't - he's got to be very sound with the ball. So, that's a thing that we keep pressing. … We hope he can take care of the ball for us." Schaub has thrown four interceptions this season with two returned for touchdowns.
Fri, 23 Aug 2013 15:15:24 -0700
CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora thinks WR DeAndre Hopkins (concussion) has big things in store this year when he returns to full health because QB Matt Schaub has developed some nice chemistry with him.
Fantasy Tip: Hopkins has incredible talent and will get to learn from one of the best in Andre Johnson. Concussions can be tricky, so it remains to be seen if Hopkins will be ready for Week 1. He's still a decent late-round flier as a WR5, especially if Johnson goes down with an injury at some point.
Wed, 17 Jul 2013 11:18:12 -0700
Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith said QB Matt Schaub knows he will be judged by how he plays in big games and that he could play better in those games. "He understands that. He knows that. "Obviously, being an offensive guy, to get a weapon like DeAndre early in the draft, very excited to get him here and work with him and bring him along because he can really help us and add a dimension to our offensive game. Some of the linemen we've taken and all the other guys on the defensive side can really help us. Very pleased with how Coach (Gary) Kubiak and (general manager) Rick (Smith) and all the guys upstairs handled the draft for us."

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said he believes the foot injury QB Matt Schaub suffered during the 2011 season may have affected his play this season. "I think that the injury he had did slow him down some," McNair said. "He was probably in the back of his mind a little concerned about reinjuring his foot, and we certainly didn't want to see that happen. He's gonna work hard in the offseason on improving his foot speed, and I think that will happen."
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 11:44:35 -0800
Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said he believes the criticism QB Matt Schaub has received this offseason is because of the position he plays. "When you win, he's the hero, 'he carried the team' and when we lose 'it's all his fault.' It's no different, look at what [Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco] has gone through in Baltimore. Up until the playoffs, the last few games there, everybody said, 'Joe Flacco couldn't get the job done, they have to get somebody in Baltimore.' Now, he's really been playing well and people are starting to say what a great player he is. Same thing will happen with Matt. He'll have to step up and perform on the big stage when the bright lights are on, and we'll all have to," McNair said.

Furthermore, moving on from Schaub would result in $14 million in dead money, thanks to the unallocated portion of his $17.5 million signing bonus. Although the hit could be reduced to $3.5 million in 2013 with a post-June 1 designation for the release, the other $10.5 million would apply to the cap in 2014.
