Wed, 03 Sep 2014 14:30:42 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub (elbow) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub shouldn't be in your lineups for Week 1 with Derek Carr getting the nod. If Carr plays well and runs with the job, Schaub may not have much of a chance to regain the starting role.

Raiders | Waiting to name starting QB

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 17:09:42 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub (elbow) is still recovering from an elbow injury. Head coach Dennis Allen said Friday, Aug. 29, that he still wants to see where Schaub is physically before making the final call on his Week 1 starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub has been nursing a sore elbow, and rookie David Carr was lights out in the final preseason game against Seattle. Matt McGloin also has had a strong preseason, so it's anyone's guess as to who will start the opener against the Jets. The only thing that is fact, neither is a top-flight fantasy option, at least not right now.

Raiders | Derek Carr could start

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 06:27:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr dazzled in the final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 28, and could have played well enough to start the season opener over QB Matt Schaub. Carr was 11-for-13 for 143 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub (elbow) is still in line to start. However, this performance gave beat writer Bill Williamson the inclination that it was enough to give Carr serious consideration to start. Neither QB is worth drafting at this point, but they could become matchup plays.

Raiders | Matt Schaub will be starter

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 19:20:07 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub (elbow) will be the team's starting quarterback in Week 1 against the New York Jets assuming his elbow is better and he can get in the requisite practice time, head coach Dennis Allen reiterated Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub was once a solid fantasy quarterback, but he has fallen off the map in the past year. He still has talent, and a decent surrounding cast in Oakland. However, he is only worth a look as a QB2 right now until he shows he can cut down on the mistakes which plagued him last season in Houston.

Raiders | Matt Schaub still out

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 13:24:15 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub (elbow) missed his third straight day of practice with elbow soreness Tuesday, Aug. 26, but head coach Dennis Allen doesn't think Schaub's injury is serious, and the team expects him to play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: The team continues to say that Schaub's injury won't be a problem, and Allen isn't straying from him as the team's No. 1 QB. However, you should be seriously worried about Schaub's arm strength and effectiveness. At this point, you should avoid him as your backup QB.

Raiders | No concerns over Matt Schaub

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:26:53 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub (elbow) is expected to start in Week 1 against the New York Jets, according to head coach Dennis Allen. Allen is not worried about Schaub's injury and is holding firm with Schaub as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub's arm injury and lack of arm strength this preseason is a pretty big concern. It also is a concern for the fantasy value of Oakland's receivers in the short term. Schaub is, at best, a low-end QB2.

Sat, 23 Aug 2014 12:01:42 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub struggled against the Green Bay Packers Friday, Aug. 22. Head coach Dennis Allen said the team needs to improve its passing game, but that it's not up to one person to make that change. Allen mentioned a dropped touchdown and protection issues among the factors contributing to Schaub's poor play.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub still has a lot to prove and is not worth drafting this year.

Raiders | Matt Schaub named Week 1 starter

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 16:46:24 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub will start the season-opener at the New York Jets. Despite a shaky start to his preseason, Schaub has the confidence of the coaching staff, and there is not a quarterback controversy in Oakland.

Fantasy Tip: This is good enough news to keep Schaub in the conversation as a late-round fantasy pick, but take it with a grain of salt. He is still facing legitimate pressure to succeed.

Raiders | Matt Schaub shaky in team debut

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 21:16:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub completed just three of his seven pass attempts for 21 yards in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 8, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: A lot of people are down on Schaub, and this type of performance won't help quiet his critics. He can still be a serviceable No. 2 fantasy QB, but his days as a fantasy starter are behind him.

Raiders | Matt Schaub learning, getting better

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 13:12:54 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub is doing what it takes to get better, according to CB Charles Woodson. Woodson said Schaub has been talking with defensive coordinator Jason Tarver after practice, which tells Woodson that Schaub knows how to improve. Woodson added that the team expects big things from him this season.

Fantasy Tip: It's great that Schaub is working hard to improve, but he's still not a reliable fantasy quarterback, especially after what he showed us last season. He's too risky to draft as a starter, so draft him as a backup if you must draft him.

Raiders | Derek Carr could push Matt Schaub

Sun, 08 Jun 2014 14:23:34 -0700

There is an internal belief that Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr could push QB Matt Schaub to start. He has already proven to the staff he won't need to sit on the sidelines in the 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: Both players are worthy of QB2 spots, but Carr's upside could make him worthy of a QB1 slot for bye weeks at some point.

Raiders | Matt Schaub excited

Fri, 23 May 2014 06:09:41 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub is excited to have more control of the offense in Oakland. "To come to an offense where the coach is looking to give you more freedom, and looking to give you more control of things," Schaub said. "I had that in some aspects in Houston, but there are things I'm being asked to do here that I didn't have control of in Houston. I would have loved to, but we just weren't in control of it. To now be in that position, and being the quarterback, that's such a great place to be because you can get everyone on the same page."

Wed, 09 Apr 2014 11:46:46 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub said he would not be upset if the team selects a quarterback during the 2014 NFL Draft, because he understands the team will look to add a younger player at the position for the future. "As you get older, teams are always going to try and find young players to come in and compete. I was one of those guys myself at one point. As a player, you just have to do your job to the best of your ability and let the chips fall where they may. I'm looking forward to helping the team in any way possible. I'm going to be the guy to lead them and show them the way," Schaub said.

The Houston Texans are signing free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Titans) to an undisclosed two-year deal Thursday, March 20, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The move signals the end to Matt Schaub's run in Houston. He's expected to be released. It won't keep Houston from selecting a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, however. Fitzpatrick is a veteran QB that could mentor a rookie quarterback or Case Keenum, if they decide to go that route.
