Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers will not be getting a seventh-round draft pick from the Houston Texans, because the Texans released QB Cody Pickett Friday, Sept. 1. The 49ers have no interest in bringing Pickett back right now because they envisioned it was going to be difficult for him to earn a roster spot this season.

Kristie Rieken, of the Associated Press, reports the Houston Texans expect newly acquired QB Cody Pickett to be their No. 3 quarterback in 2006. Head coach Gary Kubiak said Pickett first caught his eye last season and that the Texans have been trying to get him for some time but that the 49ers finally agreed to the deal Thursday, July 27. "We got a very good athlete, a very tough young man," Kubiak said. "That gives us somebody with a little bit of experience."
