Chargers | Hunter Henry to be busy in Week 3?

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 18:49:44 -0700

San Diego Chargers TE Hunter Henry is a "tremendous receiver," according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt, and QB Philip Rivers said Henry's "catches are coming."

Fantasy Tip: Henry is set for plenty of snaps against the Colts in Week 3 with Antonio Gates banged up. He is worth a flier in DFS formats.

Chargers | Philip Rivers throws four TDs

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 00:10:19 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers threw for four touchdown passes during his team's 38-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has always mastered the Jaguars defense, but this is good news for a team that could sure use it. He remains a solid QB1 option moving forward and is also worth the money in two-QB leagues.

Chargers | Tyrell Williams poised to break out?

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 09:23:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Tyrell Williams is "the prototypical big target that (QB) Philip Rivers likes to throw to", according to ESPN's Eric Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Others may be looking for Williams to take over the Keenan Allen role following his season-ending injury, but the Chargers appear to have other ideas. Travis Benjamin appeared to move into that role in the second half of Week 1 and should share some of those responsibilities with Dontrelle Inman. Williams is definitely worth adding, but his initial role may be the same one Benjamin and Malcom Floyd had before him. Williams should be considered a high-upside WR5 at the moment.

Chargers | Philip Rivers has thrived versus Jaguars

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 11:18:45 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is a combined 80-of-108 for 962 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions against the Jacksonville Jaguars - their Week 2 opponent - over the last three seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Without Keenan Allen last year, Rivers lit up the Jaguars for 300 yards and four touchdowns in what was his most productive fantasy day of the season. In their 2014 meeting, the 34-year-old signal-caller exploded for 377 and three, respectively. Jacksonville has improved defensively this season, but Rivers remains a low-end QB1 in this matchup even with Allen out for the rest of the season.

Chargers | San Diego offense headed for another dip?

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 09:19:26 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (knee) will likely need to be replaced by committee in the opinion of QB Philip Rivers after the wideout reportedly tore the ACL in his right knee in a Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, the Chargers averaged 24 points with Allen in the lineup before a lacerated kidney that ended his year. After his exit, San Diego averaged 16 points the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: The good news - if there is any - is the Chargers have more young and/or proven talent at receiver in 2016. There is some thought San Diego will bring back James Jones, who they cut during training camp, but owners can expect Travis Benjamin, Dontrelle Inman and Tyrell Williams to see more targets on a regular basis. Allen's injury should also lock Antonio Gates and Danny Woodhead into their respective TE1 and high-end RB2 designations in PPR leagues.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin adds new element

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 21:34:23 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's ability to stretch the field should open up space for intermediate passing routes, and QB Philip Rivers said it took him a while to adjust to Benjamin's speed and realize he couldn't overthrow him on deep routes.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin won't be as consistent as Keenan Allen or Antonio Gates, but he should deliver his share of big plays and have an occasional big game. He is an all-or-nothing play in standard leagues and daily formats.

Chargers | Keenan Allen even faster?

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 19:54:35 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen appears to be even faster this season, QB Philip Rivers said.

Fantasy Tip: Allen was on his way to a huge 2015 campaign before suffering a lacerated kidney, and he opens 2016 comfortably in the WR2 range.

Chargers | Philip Rivers restructures

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 07:26:37 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers restructured his contract Friday, Sept. 9, to convert $6 million of his 2016 base salary converted into a roster bonus, which created $4.5 million in cap space.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers faces a tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. He's a lower-middle option for the first game, but things could improve for him as the season progresses.

Chargers | Philip Rivers to sit out Friday

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 17:10:48 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers will not play in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Friday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers will play in the third preseason game and should receive solid playing time during that game. Rivers should be a solid No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Two Chargers close to history

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 14:11:35 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates are nine touchdowns away from surpassing San Francisco 49ers QB Steve Young and WR Jerry Rice for touchdown connections. They would then only trail former Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and WR Marvin Harrison for most touchdowns between a quarterback and pass-catcher in a career.

Fantasy Tip: You can bet Rivers and Gates know what's at stake this season, and one would think they will try to pass the legendary 49er duo this season. The tight end's best seasons are probably behind him, but he still has gas left in the tank. Draft Gates as a borderline TE1 and Rivers as a mid- to low-end QB1.
