Chargers | Philip Rivers hasn't been discussed

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 18:11:00 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers hadn't been the topic of conversations between the Chargers and other NFL teams as of Monday, April 27. There have been plenty of trade rumors surrounding Rivers this offseason, but a trade is unlikely prior to the start of the NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers should continue to be a strong fantasy QB1 in most matchups this season. Rivers has plenty of weapons in the passing game, and the addition of a running back via the draft would only help things further.

Chargers | Philip Rivers trade unlikely

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 11:09:37 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is unlikely to be traded to the Tennessee Titans on draft day this Thursday, April 30. A deal couldn't be done without Rivers signing a contract extension and passing a physical with the Titans, and neither of those have been in motion this week. The Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams are other teams that may be willing to trade with the Titans for the No. 2 overall pick in order to take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers is likely to stay in San Diego for at least one more season, and he has the weapons around him to continue his fine 2014 season as a strong QB1 option most weeks.

Chargers | Philip Rivers disgruntled with SD?

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 14:25:28 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers may be losing faith in the organization, according to NFL Network analyst and former Chargers' RB LaDainian Tomlinson. "The parts around him keep on moving… Philip could be looking at the situation and thinking 'we're not close to winning a championship anytime soon'," Tomlinson said. Rivers, however, has shown up for the start of the offseason program.

Fantasy Tip: It's promising that Rivers is present for the start of the offseason, but all is not well in San Diego it seems. There has been speculation that Rivers could be traded in correlation with the NFL Draft, but that remains to be seen, of course. He should still be regarded as a fringe QB1.

Chargers | SD plans to keep Philip Rivers

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 11:22:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is the team's starting quarterback, and the team intends to keep it that way for a while, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers is expected to play out the final year of his contract since he does not known where the team will play in the future. There have been rumors that Rivers could be traded leading up to the draft, but it appears the team wants to keep Rivers. Rivers may not be an every week starter in fantasy leagues next season but there will be matchups where he could be a solid starting option.

Chargers | Philip Rivers at offseason workouts

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 17:58:45 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers was present for the first day of offseason workouts Monday, April 20, as expected. It is business as usual for Rivers.

Fantasy Tip: Trade rumors have been swirling, as the Chargers could deal Rivers for the No. 2 overall pick and tab Marcus Mariota as their franchise quarterback. So far nothing has been done, so Rivers continues to get ready for the season. Either way, he’ll be a decent low-end QB1 in standard fantasy wherever he is in 2015.

Titans | Philip Rivers to have new home?

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 21:05:53 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is under contract for one more season, and he has expressed a desire to play out his deal. However, the Chargers might be interested in trading up to draft University of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 pick currently held by the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee head coach Ken Whisenhunt was the Chargers offensive coordinator in 2013, and offensive coordinator Jason Michael was on the San Diego staff, too.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has expressed an interest in staying in Southern California, but Nashville might be an attractive landing spot since he is an Alabama native. Either way, Rivers is expected to start somewhere, and he is coming off a nice season. He remains a Top 12 fantasy option at his position.

Chargers | Philip Rivers not on trade block

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 11:31:25 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers likely will not be traded even though he plans to play out his current contract, according to sources. The team wants to sign Rivers to a long-term contract and could use the franchise tag on him next offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers likely will remain with the team and be the starting quarterback next season. Rivers will have most of his weapons back next season and could be a starting fantasy quarterback most weeks on FantasyScore in 2015.

Chargers | SD serious about Marcus Mariota?

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 12:14:22 -0700

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is scheduled to work out for the San Diego Chargers next month, and many around the league are speculating that the team could be serious about trading up for Mariota in the year's draft. The Chargers may be prepared for a future without QB Philip Rivers, as the 2015 season is the final year of his current deal. However, general manager Tom Telesco said that the team isn't thinking of trading Rivers.

Fantasy Tip: The rumors about the Chargers trading for Mariota may be far-fetched. While Rivers should be an acceptable QB1 in many weeks in 2015, Mariota won't be anything more than a weak QB2 in standard leagues in his rookie season, no matter what team he's playing for.

Chargers | Philip Rivers dishes on future

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 12:09:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers isn't currently thinking about a contract extension with the team, but he believes he'll play out his current contract that ends after the 2015 season. "What I can control and all I know as of today, I am signed up for one more year," Rivers said. "I guess things could change, but with all the uncertainty in many aspects, I don't see it changing before camp gets here, and when camp gets here I'm even more certain to play it out." He won't rule out playing in Los Angeles if the team moves there, but there are more appealing cities for he and his family. The Chargers could put the franchise tag on Rivers for 2016, and there is speculation brewing that San Diego is prepared for a future without Rivers.

Fantasy Tip: If Rivers stays in San Diego for the 2015 season, his value likely won't change all that much from last season. The Bolts lost a few offensive weapons from last year, but they still have enough to make Rivers an acceptable QB1 in many weeks.

Chargers | Philip Rivers says he'll be ready

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 19:38:28 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (back) has been working out nearly every day at Chargers Park, although not to the level he normally would be at this time of year. Still, he declared Tuesday, March 17, that he will be ready for the team's offseason program.

There are also rumors the team could be interested in Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, and the team could be preparing for a future without Rivers. There have been no talks between the team and Rivers, and the team could conceivably place a franchise tag on him next offseason.

Fantasy Tip: It would be strange to see someone else running the offense in San Diego, as Rivers has been there for a while now. It remains to be seen if the team would be willing to trade up, and pay a heavy price to do so, to get Mariota, or whether Rivers will be with the team for the next few years. We'll find out in the next month, though. Rivers had a very nice season, but he turns 33 in December and is heading into the twilight.
