The Associated Press reports former NFL WR Jimmy Smith pleaded not guilty to several drug-related charges, which included possession of cocaine and marijuana as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. He also pleaded not guilty to driving with a suspended license.

Updating a previous report,The Associated Press reports former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol for excessive window tint Wednesday, April 22. After pulling him over, the trooper reported that the inside of the car smelled like burnt marijuana. A search of the car turned up crack cocaine, marijuana and a business card with powder cocaine residue in the car's center console. Smith faces multiple drug charges and a charge of driving with a suspended license. He was being held at the Duval County Jail with no bond set.

Smith retires as No. 7 in career receptions in NFL history with 862 catches and No. 11 in career receiving yardage in NFL history with 12,287 yards.

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith has decided to retire from the NFL after 12 seasons. He has reportedly told head coach Jack Del Rio of his decision. The Jaguars are expected to hold a press conference Thursday, May 11, unless Smith has a last-minute change of heart.

Johnson said, "I want to play until I'm 45 and I'm not fooling. As long as I can go out there and run my mouth and make plays, I can do it. What I have to do now is continue to get better." He believes he can have the same career path as Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith, who caught 70 passes during the 2005 season at the age of 36.

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith considered retirement after the team's postseason loss to the New England Patriots. Smith said, "Right after the loss to New England, I was, like, I'm done. I don't want to do this any more. I had to really talk to people to see if I want to do that." Smith talked to former NFL WR Tim Brown early in the offseason and asked him how he kept his enthusiasm over 17 seasons. Brown told him to get away from football completely throughout the offseason. Smith added, "I did that and now I'm excited. The schedule is out. It doesn't look like we'll have any blackouts. I hope this will be the year for my young receivers to step up."

"As far as I'm concerned, on opening day, both of those players will be on the roster," said Weaver. "I don't always make those final decisions. We think Fred and Jimmy both have plenty of football left and we're excited to have them as a part of our roster."

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith no longer appears to be an every down receiver because the Jaguars are now rotating four receivers in various combinations - Smith, WRs Ernest Wilford, Matt Jones and Reggie Williams. Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said Sunday, Nov. 13, that the team "needs to go beyond (RB Fred) Taylor and Jimmy (Smith) which is what this offense has been about for so long." However, Del Rio indicated Smith is still the No. 1 receiver.

Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith continued his struggling ways during the team's preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1. Smith played the first four offensive snaps and was thrown three passes by QB Byron Leftwich. None were completed, Smith was covered twice and dropped a third. The drop was wiped off the stat sheet by a penalty, but it was Smith's third in four preseason games. On why Smith was taken out, head coach Jack Del Rio said, "It wasn't a reaction to the play, but he (Smith) did drop it. Ernest did catch it. I know he's (Smith) had too many drops. I know he prides himself being a good receiver for a long time. We expect him to catch it.'' Smith also didn't give his play good reviews. "I wasn't satisfied with my play. I wasn't satisfied at all. I wish I had the whole game to play,'' he said.

"He's had too many drops. We expect him to catch it," Del Rio said. "For anybody on the roster, you've got to produce ... It's not an ultimatum. We're in the production business. Now that our roster is stronger, we may rotate guys more freely."

"Jimmy's smooth. My impression is that he's still got it," Smith said. "He looks good running routes, looks good in person, looked good on tape. He's experienced and can get deep. I got this from cornerbacks that I know. All I have to go on with him is five minicamp practices, and I didn't see any problem there."
