The Associated Press reports former NFL WR Jimmy Smith pleaded not guilty to several drug-related charges, which included possession of cocaine and marijuana as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. He also pleaded not guilty to driving with a suspended license.

Updating a previous report,The Associated Press reports former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol for excessive window tint Wednesday, April 22. After pulling him over, the trooper reported that the inside of the car smelled like burnt marijuana. A search of the car turned up crack cocaine, marijuana and a business card with powder cocaine residue in the car's center console. Smith faces multiple drug charges and a charge of driving with a suspended license. He was being held at the Duval County Jail with no bond set.

Smith said, "Right after the loss to New England, I was, like, I'm done. I don't want to do this any more. I had to really talk to people to see if I want to do that." Smith talked to former NFL WR Tim Brown early in the offseason and asked him how he kept his enthusiasm over 17 seasons. Brown told him to get away from football completely throughout the offseason. Smith added, "I did that and now I'm excited. The schedule is out. It doesn't look like we'll have any blackouts. I hope this will be the year for my young receivers to step up."

Smith played the first four offensive snaps and was thrown three passes by QB Byron Leftwich. None were completed, Smith was covered twice and dropped a third. The drop was wiped off the stat sheet by a penalty, but it was Smith's third in four preseason games. On why Smith was taken out, head coach Jack Del Rio said, "It wasn't a reaction to the play, but he (Smith) did drop it. Ernest did catch it. I know he's (Smith) had too many drops. I know he prides himself being a good receiver for a long time. We expect him to catch it.'' Smith also didn't give his play good reviews. "I wasn't satisfied with my play. I wasn't satisfied at all. I wish I had the whole game to play,'' he said.
