Tim Kawakami, of the San Jose Mercury News, speculates Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis may consider firing head coach Tom Cable during the team's bye week. If Cable were fired during the season, assistant coach Paul Hackett or Ted Tollner would take over on an interim basis.

Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers named Ted Tollner as their quarterbacks coach and assistant to the head coach Wednesday, Jan. 30. He joined the team late in the 2007 season and will now be in a permanent role.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Ted Tollner has taken on a role as a consultant for the 49ers' Week 12 game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to sources. It's unclear whether Tollner will remain with the 49ers for the remainder of the season and if he'll have any role on game days.

DetroitLions.com reports Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington says the addition of offensive coordinator Ted Tollner hasn't changed the team's offensive philosophy too much. "There really are not any dramatic changes in what he does," Harrington said. "He does put a little more emphasis on some things rather than others, but it is still the same offense so that is good for me."

Curt Sylvester, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions new offensive coordinator Ted Tollner will be the club's play-caller next season, according to head coach Steve Mariucci. "Right now, we're going to proceed with Ted as the play caller," Mariucci said. "I'll stay with him, and (QB coach Greg Olson) would be the guy who gives it to the quarterback on the field. That's the way I did it a lot in San Francisco, and I liked it better that way."
