They have also named assistant coach Eric Ciano as strength and conditioning coach.

Doctors are still evaluating his tests but Henderson may have been dehydrated.

Henderson's car hit a cement barrier after he fainted but he was conscious when taken to the hospital.

Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:17:37 -0800 Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers are expected to interview former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson over the weekend for their vacancy at defensive coordinator. Henderson and 49ers head coach Mike Nolan worked together for two seasons while on the defensive staff of the Baltimore Ravens and according to a league source, the two did not always see eye-to-eye. Nolan is believed to want someone with more experience as a coordinator so he can concentrate on the game management rather than on the down-to-down involvement of running the defense, which is why Henderson is being brought in.

Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions CB Dre' Bly likes the changes the team has made to their coaching staff, including the hiring of head coach Rod Marinelli, defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson and offensive coordinator Mike Martz. "I think it's a great mixture," Bly said Thursday, Feb. 9. "We'll jell well together. I really feel like this year is going to be our year, because Mike Martz, he has credibility. He's had No. 1 offenses in this league. He's led a team to a Super Bowl. He had an offense that was called 'The Greatest Show on Turf.' I'm very excited about Mike." Last week Bly went to team headquarters and lobbied president Matt Millen to hire Martz. Bly was thrilled when Martz's hiring was announced Wednesday, Feb. 8. He said it was a move the veterans needed to see the team make. Bly thinks Marinelli and Henderson will help too, and he doesn't think Martz will have a problem stepping back to be a coordinator.

Thu, 26 Jan 2006 08:17:19 -0800 The Detroit Free Press reports the Detroit Lions had not announced the hiring of any assistant coaches by late Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, despite reports they had hired Donnie Henderson as their defensive coordinator and were high on Hue Jackson for their offensive coordinator job. Apparently the Lions were talking to Henderson, the former New York Jets defensive coordinator, and to Jackson, Cincinnati's wide receivers coach, but nothing had been finalized.

Mangini and the Jets were finalizing the deal late Monday, Jan. 16. The Associated Press reported that Jets assistant coaches had been told to report to work Wednesday, Jan. 18, indicating a decision would be made by then. With Mangini getting the job, it is believed that defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff will probably be let go.

One person Edwards is believed to be interested in is defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, but the Chiefs are bringing current defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham back. "I'm interviewing guys - obviously all the guys on this staff," Edwards said. "I'm not trying to keep any secrets, but I'm trying to get a hold of some guys and sit down and make some tough decisions. This has been a good football team. It's got good football coaches, and I think sometimes when you make changes people think that the reason you make the change is because the coach is not a good coach. That has nothing to do with that at all."

Henderson has interviewed for the Jets' vacant head coaching position, but the source says that the job will likely go to New England Patriots defensive coordinator Eric Mangini. If that happens, the source says, Mangini will likely replace Henderson and bring in his own staff. Henderson, who has interviewed for the New Orleans Saints' head coaching position, signed an extension with the Jets during the offseason.

Financial terms of the deal were unavailable. Henderson had been one of the NFL's lowest-paid coordinators. In 2004, which was Henderson's first year as coordinator, the Jets ranked seventh in the NFL in total defense, fourth in fewest points allowed (16.3 per game) and tied for fourth in takeaways (33).
