Steelers | Big Ben goes over 500 yards in win

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 21:02:49 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 44 of his career-high 66 attempts for 506 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 14 win against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger shredded a Baltimore pass defense which hasn't allowed a 300-yard passer all season. He hooked up with Antonio Brown 11 times for 213 yards, as those two continue to click. He'll look to keep it rolling against the New England Patriots in Week 15.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger reaches milestone

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 19:59:35 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger became the eighth player in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards, doing so in the team's Week 13 victory Monday, Dec. 4, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Fittingly, he did it in style, leading his club from a 17-point deficit opposite a fierce division rival to pick up the win. Since a slow start to the campaign that saw him produce more interceptions than touchdowns in the first six weeks, Roethlisberger has settled in nicely, and in four of his last five games, he's logged at least 290 yards through the air. Keep riding him as your QB1 in the fantasy playoffs if he's on your roster.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger continues on roll

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 22:13:37 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24-of-40 passes for 290 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the team's Week 13 win Monday, Dec. 4, against the Cincinnati Bengals. He also added one rush for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was Big Ben's third straight game with at least 290 passing yards, and over that stretch, he's tossed 10 touchdown passes compared to three interceptions. This is the version of Roethlisberger owners were waiting for following his quiet start to the season, and his excellence is coming at the most important time of the fantasy year. With the way he's going right now, he's as dangerous a QB1 as any in pro football.

Steelers | Big Ben tosses four TDs in SNF win

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 20:49:39 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 33 of 45 passes for 351 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben has posted huge numbers over the past two games, and he and Antonio Brown are back on the same page with five touchdowns during the span. Roethlisberger didn't look very good at the beginning of the season, but he's looking like a QB1 in most fantasy formats right now.

Steelers | Four touchdowns for Big Ben

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 20:59:25 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 30 of his 45 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns and rushed once for 10 yards in a 40-17 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been mired in a stretch of mediocrity, and this was the first time he has thrown more than two touchdowns all season and just the fourth time he has thrown zero interceptions. Despite the big performance, he should only be viewed as a streaming option against friendly matchups.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger practices Tuesday

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 16:38:37 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has seen a drop in his numbers this season and has struggled with interceptions. He still has a solid group of pass catchers to work with is should only be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger limited

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 14:01:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) was limited during practice Monday, Nov. 13. The Steelers did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been a disappointing option for owners in 2017 and only has 12 touchdowns in nine games. He has been playing a little better lately but probably should only be considered a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger rallies team to win

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 15:13:43 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 19 of his 31 pass attempts for 236 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 10 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben rallied the team from 17-9 down, outscoring the Colts 11-0 in the final quarter. A 7-yard scoring strike to Vance McDonald and a two-point conversion pass to Martavis Bryant helped tie it, then a long pass to Antonio Brown set up the game-winning field goal. The Steelers have a quick turnaround against the Titans on Thursday in Week 11.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger tosses two TDs

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 20:24:10 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't a giant stat line for Big Ben, but it's a huge improvement over his last game at home when he had a career-high five interceptions two weeks ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He remains a low-end QB1 or must-start QB2 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 8 in Detroit.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger doesn't do much

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 19:18:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that he cleaned up the interceptions after having a career-high five picks last week. His only touchdown was an acrobatic catch and run by Antonio Brown in the fourth quarter, or this line would be even worse. He'll look for better results back home in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but right now he is looking more like a QB2 in most fantasy formats.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has disastrous day

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 14:05:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 33 of his 55 pass attempts for 312 yards, no touchdowns and a career-high five interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben's yardage total was fine, but two of his career-high five picks were returned for touchdowns and he finished with a terrible 37.8 passer rating. He faces another tough matchup on the road in Week 6 against the Chiefs, so it might be a good idea to go another way if you normally depend upon him.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger plays well at home but will be facing the top ranked pass defense in the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has thrown for more than 250 yards only once this season but can still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger fully practices Thursday

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 16:49:26 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) was a full participant at practice Thursday, Oct. 5, one day after he did not practice.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question Roethlisberger will suit up on Sunday against the Jaguars. While Jacksonville has sported a more-than-competent defense thus far, the Steelers are due for a real big day offensively, which could make this the first game they reach 27 points this season. He's still a QB1 in this matchup.

Wed, 04 Oct 2017 14:24:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has received Wednesdays off the last few weeks but will be ready to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. He has not thrown for more than 263 yards in any game this season but has played better at home over the last few seasons. He may be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues but can be benched if owners have better options.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 18 of his 30 pass attempts for 216 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben hasn't done anything special so far, totaling six touchdown passes with two interceptions while throwing for 243 or fewer yards in each of his past three outings. He has been putting up QB2-type production so far. He'll look for better results in Week 5 against the visiting Jaguars.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has posted solid numbers so far this season but has not thrown for more than 263 yards in any of the three games this season. He struggled on the road the past few season and is facing a good Baltimore Ravens defense. Owners in most leagues can keep Roethlisberger on the bench this week.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger back on the field

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 14:12:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been a decent fantasy option so far this season but likely is not posting the numbers that owners expected when the season started. He continues to be an average quarterback on the road, so owners may want to look for other options to use in their lineups.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger not practicing

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 13:06:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury related) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger likely just received a day off from the rigors of the practice field. The 2017 season has been a relative struggle for Big Ben so far and it doesn't look to get easier on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. He's a QB2 in Week 4.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger struggles in Chicago

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 17:06:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 22 of his 39 pass attempts for 235 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. He was sacked three times in the loss and he lost a fumble.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger still hooked up with Antonio Brown 10 times and moved the offense, but his numbers were under average against a Chicago defense which was torched last week in Tampa. Big Ben will look to rebound in Week 4 in Baltimore against a pass defense which was toasted in London by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 22, and is not in the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has struggled on the road over the last few seasons but has a chance to play better since all of his pass catchers will be available. He will be facing a Chicago Bears defense that has allowed 502 passing yards in the first two games. Owners in deeper leagues can consider Roethlisberger as a low-end No. 1 quarterback.

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 14:16:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger is off to a solid start to the season with 506 yards and four touchdowns but will be a risky option for owners because he struggles on the road. He will have a favorable matchup in Week 3 and could still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 13:36:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (rest) was given the day off to rest at practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben was getting the typical veteran's day to rest, and he'll likely be back at it as a full participant on Thursday as the team ramps up for its Week 3 game in Chicago. He remains a reliable fantasy option, even in what is his final season in the NFL.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger throws two TDs

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 14:56:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 23-for-35 for 243 yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger continued his strong play at home and used multiple receivers during the game. He has struggled on the road over the last few seasons but could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback next week when the Steelers travel to play the Chicago Bears.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has solid outing

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 12:55:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 24-for-36 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Most of Roethlisberger's yards came off throws to Antonio Brown, so it appears he needs more time to strengthen his chemistry with Le'Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant. He will be facing a tough Minnesota Vikings defense in Week 2 but could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback because he plays better at home.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger plans to play Saturday

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 17:52:02 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he will play in the preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger sat out the first two preseason games but probably will play most of the first half against the Colts. He will have a lot of weapons to work with in the passing game this season, but owners may want to consider him a No. 2 fantasy quarterback because he has struggled on the road over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to sit Sunday

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 15:05:27 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has been told that he will not play in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20, but will play in the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger had a similar workload last preseason, so the team wants to make sure he is healthy for the start of the regular season. Roethlisberger has plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game but is not a great fantasy option because he has struggled on the road for the last few seasons. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in leagues.

Steelers | Big Ben, Antonio Brown to sit Friday

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 09:56:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown will not play in the team's exhibition opener against the New York Giants on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have no reason to expose their quarterback and arguably the game's best receiver to potential injury this weekend, especially when neither player would play more than one or two series anyway. Expect the duo to get their first preseason snaps on Aug. 20 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was unable to finish practice Thursday, Aug. 3, because of a right ankle injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was great at home but struggled on the road last year, making him a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 in 2017.

Steelers | Big Ben unsure about playing past 2017

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 12:01:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has yet to commit to playing beyond this season. "I feel if I commit to anything past right now, I'm cheating now. I'm looking forward to this season, and I'm going to give it everything I have and afterwards we'll sit down and do some (thinking) again," Roethlisberger said.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers addressed life post-Roethlisberger by spending a fourth-round pick on Josh Dobbs this spring. With Big Ben talking about retirement already this summer and his wife encouraging him to do so, there's a decent chance he may be playing his final season. For fantasy purposes, he is a highly inconsistent low-end QB1 with severe home-road splits over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant wants to talk to QB

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 18:31:23 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant said he wants to talk with QB Ben Roethlisberger "man-to-man" about the public comments Roethlisberger made about Bryant's suspension. "Hopefully we'll have it before the season starts," Bryant said. "If not, that's fine. I'm still going to go out and perform and do what I have to do to be the best teammate I can be."

Fantasy Tip: Fair or foul, the comments Roethlisberger made shouldn't have much impact on Bryant's fantasy value. If he can stay out of trouble, Bryant's big-play potential makes him a high-upside WR3.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger wants tight end

Tue, 11 Apr 2017 12:35:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has already lobbied to head coach Mike Tomlin to draft a tigh end, according to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala.

Fantasy Tip: Heath Miller is gone and Ladarius Green didn't see much of the field last year due to poor health. Green would presumably be the favorite to start even if the Steelers do draft a tight end. If Green is fully healthy before the season begins, he can be drafted as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2. As for Roethlisberger, he is over the hill and should no longer be regarded as a QB1.

Steelers | Big Ben confirms he will play in 2017

Fri, 07 Apr 2017 11:25:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger informed the Steelers he will return for a 14th season in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger suggested retirement was a possibility for him shortly after the team's AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots, but few - including the Steelers - seemed to take him all that seriously. Even though he is coming back, Pittsburgh would be well-served to make finding his heir apparent a priority. For fantasy purposes, Big Ben should be considered a midrange to low-end QB1 in 2017.

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 07:57:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to play in 2017, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin said he hasn't asked him directly, but he expects him to play.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben threw out some mild retirement shockwaves in the media, but he'll be in the midst of the midrange or upper-middle QB1 portions in fantasy.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin unfazed by Roethlisberger talk

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 19:23:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin think it's a "very reasonable discussion when you get 35," referring to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's retirement talk, but ultimately, he feels people "probably read too much into it" and "are making more out of than what it is."

Fantasy Tip: He's probably right, as it seems more likely than not that Roethlisberger will indeed be back for the 2017 campaign, especially considering that the 13-year veteran has been consistently excellent over the past handful of seasons. In fact, Big Ben has topped 3,800 passing yards in four consecutive years after reaching that plateau only twice previously. Fantasy owners can still look at him as their potential QB1.

Steelers | PIT planning for Ben Roethlisberger return

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 15:26:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers are proceeding as if QB Ben Roethlisberger will play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has said he is leaning towards playing but has not made an official decision, so owners should monitor the situation. The Steelers could consider adding a quarterback during the 2017 NFL draft even if Roethlisberger returns. He would be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he continues to play.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger 'leaning toward' return

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 10:22:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger spoke at a conference over the weekend and suggested he was leaning toward a return. Roethlisberger stated on his radio show in January he had to think about whether or not he was going to play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Very few people seemed to take the 35-year-old Roethlisberger seriously regarding his talk of retirement, and this report would seem to be further proof Big Ben may have just been testing the waters. The Steelers would be wise to start grooming his heir apparent, although it would make sense for them to wait until next year to do it since the draft class is expected to be significantly better. Assuming he returns as expected, Roethlisberger figures to be a low-end fantasy QB1 again in 2017.

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 11:32:23 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said he expects to see QB Ben Roethlisberger on the field when the team starts their offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger indicated that he was considering retirement this offseason, but most people believe that he will return for at least one more season. He struggled during the playoffs but posted solid numbers during the regular season. Roethlisberger can be considered a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues next season because of the weapons he has in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger hinted about retirement after the season, but most people believe that he will play at least one more season. Tue, 31 Jan 2017 13:40:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to return next season, according to owner Art Rooney, despite uncertainty regarding his future. Rooney did admit, however, that the Steelers are probably due to look at quarterbacks in this year's draft class.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger's long career has taken its toll. He hasn't played a full season since 2014 and has only played three full seasons in his 13-year career. If he does return, he's a borderline QB1, but it would probably safer to draft him as a high-end QB2.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger better at home

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 15:36:14 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw for 1,915 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions at home this season. He threw for 1,904 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has had problems on the road in each of the last two seasons but has played very well at Heinz Field. He has mentioned the possibility of retirement after the season but there is a good chance he will be back for 2017. He should be considered a decent No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues if he plays.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger uncertain about future

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 09:32:28 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger hinted retirement was an option when he joined The Cook and Poni Show on 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday, Jan. 24. "I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options. To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season," Roethlisberger said.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely a bit of an emotional reaction in the wake of a disappointing result in the AFC Championship this past weekend. Roethlisberger is only 34 and would owe Pittsburgh $18.6 million if he calls it a career, so the odds are he will be back in 2017. With that said, the Steelers probably need to ramp up their efforts to find his successor in the next draft or two.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger stellar against zone

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 12:13:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 16 of 17 passes for 123 yards versus the New England Patriots' zone defense in the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: All things considered, Roethlisberger had a good game statistically, but the Patriots really limited the Steelers' big-play potential. A large part of that was due to Antonio Brown not finding much room as Malcolm Butler did a great job in coverage all game. Look for Butler to shadow Julio Jones as much as possible in the Super Bowl. Injuries and gradual decline make Roethlisberger a backup fantasy option next season.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger decent in loss

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 18:53:00 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 31 of his 47 passing attempts for 314 yards, one touchdown and an interception Sunday, Jan. 22, against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben was done no service by his receivers -- namely Sammie Coates, who dropped three catchable balls. Losing Le'Veon Bell early was costly, but New England largely bottled him up before his departure. Roethlisberger is a low-end QB1 or ideal backup in 2017 fantasy drafts.
