The Dayton Daily News reports Cincinnati Reds CL Eddie Guardado (Tommy John surgery), who is not expected back until midseason, is doing all the workouts with the pitchers but is not throwing off a mound.

Astros | Backe may not be tendered

The Houston Chronicle reports unless a deal is reached before Dec. 12, there is a chance the Houston Astros won't tender a contract to SP Brandon Backe, who had Tommy John surgery on his right arm earlier this year. "Here's a player who's likely to miss the majority of the season," general manager Tim Purpura said. "But also that's a surgery that players typically have been able to come back from not easily, but more successfully in more recent years."

Mets | Glavine advances up win, strikeout career lists

The Newark Star-Ledger's Don Burke reports with his 288th victory earned Sept. 7, New York Mets SP Tom Glavine moved into a tie with Tommy John for 23rd place on the all-time list. Early Wynn and Lefty Grove are next on the list, tied at 300. Glavine's five strikeouts also moved him into 32nd place on the all-time list with 2,463. He is just one strikeout behind Mark Langston for 31st place.

Phillies | Wolf to begin rehab stint

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Todd Zolecki reports Philadelphia Phillies SP Randy Wolf (elbow), who had Tommy John surgery July 1 of last year, will make his first rehabilitation start Tuesday, May 23, in Clearwater, Fla. "He's on schedule," Phillies general manager Pat Gillick said. Gillick estimates that Wolf could return to the Phillies before the All-Star break begins on July 10.

Rangers | Riley to have Tommy John procedure for third time

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Texas Rangers SP Matt Riley (elbow), who learned Friday, May 5, that he had retorn a ligament in his left elbow and would need a third "Tommy John" elbow ligament replacement surgery in order to keep playing, has decided to have the operation.

Dodgers | Brazoban has Tommy John surgery

The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers RP Yhency Brazoban (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow Tuesday, April 18, at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic. Brazoban is expected to sidelined at least one year.

Updating an earlier item, Carter Gaddis, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays minor league P Wade Townsend (elbow), who was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow after injuring it while pitching in the Arizona Fall League, is due to be examined by the team's orthopedist next week to determine if or when Tommy John surgery would be performed.
