Tue, 05 Dec 2006 00:02:44 -0800 The Houston Chronicle reports unless a deal is reached before Dec. 12, there is a chance the Houston Astros won't tender a contract to SP Brandon Backe, who had Tommy John surgery on his right arm earlier this year. "Here's a player who's likely to miss the majority of the season," general manager Tim Purpura said. "But also that's a surgery that players typically have been able to come back from — not easily, but more successfully in more recent years."

Early Wynn and Lefty Grove are next on the list, tied at 300. Glavine's five strikeouts also moved him into 32nd place on the all-time list with 2,463. He is just one strikeout behind Mark Langston for 31st place.
Fri, 19 May 2006 00:41:41 -0700 The Philadelphia Inquirer's Todd Zolecki reports Philadelphia Phillies SP Randy Wolf (elbow), who had Tommy John surgery July 1 of last year, will make his first rehabilitation start Tuesday, May 23, in Clearwater, Fla. "He's on schedule," Phillies general manager Pat Gillick said. Gillick estimates that Wolf could return to the Phillies before the All-Star break begins on July 10.

Thu, 13 Oct 2005 20:51:51 -0700 Updating an earlier item, Carter Gaddis, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays minor league P Wade Townsend (elbow), who was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow after injuring it while pitching in the Arizona Fall League, is due to be examined by the team's orthopedist next week to determine if or when Tommy John surgery would be performed.
