Former NFL QB Joe Namath questioned the way New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan prepares his team for games. Ryan, meanwhile, said he would welcome Namath to watch his team practice and see how they prepare first-hand. Ryan jokingly said he might even let the long-retired Namath participate in practice and compete to be QB Mark Sanchez's backup. "I'm not gonna change who I am because Joe Namath said something," Ryan said. "Joe Namath can come in here, and if he can still throw, we'll have him as a backup quarterback. He doesn't know our team. He's on the outside. Even though he's a Jet, and once you're a Jet you're always a Jet ... but he's on the outside, he's not in these meetings. I think if he was he'd be shocked at the preparation."

The Associated Press reports former New York Jets QB Joe Namath lobbied lawmakers Monday to build a new stadium in Manhattan for his former team. "A prediction?" Namath said. "We're going to have that stadium." The Jets are attempting to build a 75,000 seat stadium in Manhattan. While the stadium itself would be financed by the Jets, the state and city would each contribute $300 million for related projects. The owners of Madison Square Garden are against the proposal. State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno has yet to back the proposal.

The Associated Press reports former NFL QB Joe Namath is undergoing counseling for alcohol abuse a month after a television interview in which he slurred his words and twice told a sideline reporter he wanted to kiss her. "Well, I've enrolled, or I've gone into a center, and I'm getting personal help there," the Hall of Fame quarterback told ESPN in an interview to be aired Sunday, Jan. 25. "Yeah, these people are experts and we need to talk." In an interview during a New England Patriots-New York Jets game in December, Namath appeared intoxicated when he twice told ESPN reporter Suzy Kolber he wanted to kiss her. Namath subsequently apologized to Kolber. Namath said he had been drinking for several hours prior to kickoff.
