Houston Astros C Jason Castro (neck) had nothing more than a stiff neck after being taken out in a home plate collision Monday, April 23. Castro wasn't in the lineup Tuesday, April 24, but only because it was C Chris Snyder's day to catch. Castro will return to the lineup Wednesday, April 25.

Houston Astros C Chris Snyder (back) said he is in great shape and feels good this spring after suffering a major back injury last year. "I feel like I'm in great shape," Snyder said. "I'm moving around and the flexibility is good. It's a normal spring for me."

Houston Astros C Chris Snyder's 2013 mutual option is worth $4 million, all of which is guaranteed. The option contains a $500,000 buyout. Snyder can make extra money in 2012; he'll earn $125,000 for 300 plate appearances, $125,000 for 325, $125,000 for 350, $125,000 for 375, $250,000 for 400, $250,000 for 425, $250,000 for 450 and $250,000 for 475. He also has various bonuses for awards.

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros C Chris Snyder will receive $750,000 in 2012, with $350,000 guaranteed. He will also receive bonuses for plate appearances and days on the team's roster.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said C Jason Castro (foot, knee) is ahead of schedule in his rehab, but C Chris Snyder was added for depth and insurance at the position.

The Houston Astros signed free-agent C Chris Snyder (Pirates) to a one-year deal with a mutual option for the 2013 season Friday, Jan. 20. Financial terms of the contract were not given.

The Pittsburgh Pirates offered 1B Derrek Lee (Type B) arbitration, but didn't offer it to OF Ryan Ludwick or C Chris Snyder. The Pirates already received a draft pick when C Ryan Doumit (Type B) signed with the Minnesota Twins.

The Pittsburgh Pirates declined options on SP Paul Maholm, C Chris Snyder, C Ryan Doumit and SS Ronny Cedeno. They will receive $750,000, $750,000, $500,000 and $200,000 buyouts, respectively.

Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said the team is comfortable with its internal options at catcher after they decline C Ryan Doumit and C Chris Snyder's options.

The Pittsburgh Pirates do not plan on picking up the 2012 options on Cs Ryan Doumit or Chris Snyder (back). Doumit's option was worth $7.25 million, and he had another option for 2013 worth $8.25 million. His buyout is for $500,000. Snyder's option was worth $6.75 million, and he will receive a $750,000 buyout. The Bucs will not try to re-sign either backstop at a reduced cost. Snyder continues to rehab from back surgery in Arizona and hopes to resume throwing around Thanksgiving.
