According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

The Associated Press reports the Chicago White Sox released RP Mike Jackson. Jackson, 39, was 2-0 with a 5.01 ERA in 45 appearances this season.

Scott Merkin, of WhiteSox.MLB.com, reports Chicago White Sox RP Billy Koch will continue to see save opportunities but the team will now go with the best matchups available when choosing whom pitches in save situations. Other players mentioned as possibly seeing save chances are RP Mike Jackson, RP Damaso Marte and RP Shingo Takatsu.

Scott Merkin, of WhiteSox.MLB.com, reports Chicago White Sox P Mike Jackson (knee) was sore Saturday, May 29, but available to pitch. He took a line drive just below his left knee Friday, May 28. Jackson said he'll be fine and that it just hit him in a bad spot, as that's where he had three staples placed in his knee from a surgery back in high school.

The Associated Press reports Chicago White Sox P Mike Jackson (leg) was forced out of the Friday, May 28, game with the Anaheim Angels when Angels OF Jeff DaVanon lined a ball off his left leg. No further details were given on his condition.

WhiteSox.MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports Chicago White Sox RP Mike Jackson made his first appearance since Sept. 28, 2002 on Thursday, April 9. "My adrenaline was really rushing, but I've been in those situations quite a bit. I tried to step back and harness it and not do too much with my pitches," said Jackson. "The fact that I got back out there when the game counts, after sitting out that long, that was important. You go through a lot of emotions and your mind plays tricks on you when you are away from the game."
