According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

Scott Merkin, of WhiteSox.MLB.com, reports Chicago White Sox P Mike Jackson (knee) was sore Saturday, May 29, but available to pitch. He took a line drive just below his left knee Friday, May 28. Jackson said he'll be fine and that it just hit him in a bad spot, as that's where he had three staples placed in his knee from a surgery back in high school.

"My adrenaline was really rushing, but I've been in those situations quite a bit. I tried to step back and harness it and not do too much with my pitches," said Jackson. "The fact that I got back out there when the game counts, after sitting out that long, that was important. You go through a lot of emotions and your mind plays tricks on you when you are away from the game."
